Has anyone who had a failed 85 or 70 battery been offered a new battery Or everyone gets refurbished?
is there a difference if car is under warranty vs not?
im assuming anyone under warranty gets refurbished battery, but what about those out of warranty?
if thousand of cars fail within 6 months...
If I understood this correctly, payment was strictly for the loss of use during that period. In that case, it does not apply to any future issue, reduction of capacity, etc. maybe someone here has more specific and factual information?
i got Pirellis in April to replace MXM4s On MS.
they handle better, are quieter, more comfortable, probably will last longer, and are more efficient by around 5%.
but…they made me feel unsafe. Every time I looked away from the road, and I mean for split second, car was going into another lane...
Have you figured this out? I got the same problem. The thing just doesn’t work. On my family members 3 compressor worked but not the sealant (when he really needed it). Then I tried on my MS to see if it’ll work, and it didn’t work at all, and then it blew the fuse. I’m suspecting that switch...
I don’t doubt what @wk057 is true to the best of his observation and analysis. However, it just doesn’t cover all the cases we see, so there just might be a bit more to the story (to be clear I’m implying he’s not aware of it, NOT that he’s hiding info). Three example here, we all got reduced...
it trully is amazing that we all had that capacity, and then didn’t, and now some of us do. i didn’t know wear and tear is reversible by itself. Or are you saying they are laying now and we actually don’t have that capacity?
for all the legal wording references you make, maybe take a look at...
Ingesting part Is they say do not charge or leave in the garage.
on a different note, this article seems to say Tesla solved this problem at roadster time…:)
How Tesla engineers solved the problem of exploding EV batteries
does anyone know if 85/70s batteries are the same as what was used in...
Very true. Like someone said before, part of this deal should have been to extend battery warranty for the duration of the reduction in capacity, and guarantee it will never happen again. The fact that it wasn't part of the deal, indicates prolonging until some warranties expire was likely the...
From what I read in DJRas' post, it seemed there was some talk of fires. So I would imagine NHTSA would be all over this now with Tesla's admission that battery capping was intentional and without owners' permission.
So what is the reason admitted to for doing so?
I think so too. I'm just very skeptical b/c most of the time, only 85s are mentioned - with everything I've seen so far, it's not beyond Tesla to forget some cars.
That said, I hope you are due for a new battery instead :)
is this at certain SOCs? Mine will drain the battery actively above 80% SOC. So normal vampire drain is 1-2mi per day, while above 80 is up to 4mi/hour
Thank you for all your effort and work to get to resolution. Do you know if MS 70s are a part of 1743? Mine was most definitively capped but it is a 70.
same or similar here. Mine starts of great, but as the car warms up in the sun, it just simply gets very stingy. I set it to 11, it'll change it to 8. And auto will keep it on 6 max. Basically, setting it to 65 and auto, I'll still be sweating with 85-90 outside.
something else I've figured out is that passenger side vents typically blow less air, and blow warmer air when AC is on, and cold/er air when heater is on.
I keep HVAC in single climate mode. Anyone has any ideas?
another thing I noticed is that vents on the right (front passenger) blow less air than driver side, and it typically is not as cold when AC is on, and not as warm when heater is on (it can be downright just cold air). I only use single mode climate control.
no, never use it.
I get that car may prioritize battery over cabin (which says something about overall design or battery), but why blow cold air when it's set to 76 and it's 40 outside...there's gotta be something wrong with it, I don't see connection to battery as this usually happens after...
and erratic is the best way to describe it...if you stick around, you never know what you're gonna get, might work, might not, might cool, might heat, who knows...oh and which side (vent) is gonna get you
I just started another similar thread b/c this one or any other relevant didn't come up in search...
Have a similar issue:
All of this happens on auto mode, in single temp operation. All windows are tinted including the roof, and I have the mesh roof cover.
When outside is 75-85F, setting AC to...
Has anyone encountered this issue?
All of this happens on auto mode, in single temp operation. All windows are tinted including the roof, and I have the mesh roof cover.
When outside is 75-85F, setting AC to 70 makes me freezing in the car. However, if outside is 90F+ and car has been driven or...
I know the question was for someone else, but since we are on the topic, I wanted to update also. In general, I do not see pumps draining the battery above 80% like before, but they do run - by my definition, run means I can hear them. However, now they run most of the time, even below 80%. I...
It is quite frustrating. It's difficult to make any trips longer than 100mi. Mine will not go over 70kW no matter what (temp, preconditioning, SOC), and it will stay there only to say "I was there", then immediately drops to 60s, 50s, will hang out at 47 for a while, and go to 30s, and...
Thanks. Yes, so that's what I'm wondering about. We are discussing how sensor measurement may not be 100% reliable at some voltage well below 4.2V. But doesn't that mean that same error could have happened at 4.2V? And if it's measuring 4.2, but it's actually higher than that, what happens?
maybe this was described in the paper or before in the thread, but I cannot recall I have seen it. So if they are not sure they are reading voltages correctly, how is it that they know reliably it is charged to 4.2v? or potentially not?
I know there was a discussion about "not-existing range" at...
Same here. From March to May of 2019, I charged the car full and it showed 240 and 239 (max for 70D). in that same period, I drove it home once with 10 miles left and then charged it. So it would appear that I had the full range. Since then, I've rarely charged it full, and rarely dropped below...
definitely right on that. I bought mine in March 2019 as a 3 year old CPO and 20k miles. It charged at 100+ kW on a regular bases up to 2019.16. Even after 2019.16 I remember it not being limited, but soon after I started to limit around 80kW, and nowadays I don't get anything close to 80kW any...
If anything it's much worse. Was charging at 30kw the other day at 25%. If I "pre condition" it, it does charge faster, but not a lot maybe get 50kW, and on some occasions, I may hit 60kw, but that's very briefly.
Thanks for the info!
Cooling issue started after 2019.16. Worked great prior to May '19. Air is cold, but fan gets very stingy when its hot outside, it's like it deliberately runs at 3 when it should be running at 7 on auto. One time it literally dropped fan speed from 11 to 8 while in manual...
yeah, I've got no clue why its so delayed. I got mine last week too. Interesting you saw the same short term effect also. I guess, as long as no permanent backwards changes, it's ok :) spent enough time on those.
@wk057
according to your analysis, it would seem that other issues reported in this thread are not related to capping the voltage on 85s and 70s (at least), where other issues are:
- reduced charge "speed"
- reduced regen at low, but significantly higher temps then below (seems to be in 60s F...
Mine appeared to do the same, but after some charging, seems to be back up where it was before the 2020.48 update. Now, why are we just now getting 2020.48 is an interesting question.
@wk057: Jason, thank you for all your work involved in this issue, and for posting your findings!
I wrote about this a few times, so want to follow up. At the same time when range dropped due to 2019.16 update, my AC started being extremely stingy, ie. I had to significantly reduce set temp to...
Sad collection?
The only thing that's sad here is you thinking it is your duty to come to this forum to try to "correct the incorrect claim".
Plenty of people have shared their experiences where they did not get affected by what's discussed in this forum. But they only shared their experience...
5-6 years he said? If it fails in 5-6 years, I think he forgot to say that it starts to function in annoyingly and unsafe manner much before that, like several years before. So did they design it to do that too? If no, how come SC always says it works according to spec.
You just can't (always)...
I can confirm that it was doing that indeed since at least summer of 2019 through spring of 2020. As of recently, pump still runs at >80% SoC, but I did not see as great of a reduction in range, so who knows what they did now.
QUOTE="Rocky_H, post: 5307470, member: 32731"]You're being completely ridiculous.
I would appreciate that you do not talk to me like this, or anyone else on the forum.
Question was for jkennebeck. How you feel about this issue is not very relevant to me.
nonsense? You ok with it going back in and hoping it will extend back while car is on fire and your child is in the back? If you need additional details on possibility of that, take a look at this thread Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software
Besides that wasn't the question. The question...
Glad you mentioned there are others who are not aware of the forum.
I will only think about spending money in this case if I'm getting something that wasn't originally on the spec sheet and has reasonable cost, eg. higher capacity battery. Even then, I don't want to be pigeonholed into it...
Sorry, no, I don't get it. Sounds like you are saying that only people who have a problem are coming to this forum, and that implies that it's a small percentage of owners who are affected.
You are right that it hasn't been quantified, so while we don't know if most cars have been affected, we...
Seems that if the lawsuits are ruled in favor of us, the only practical solution will be some compensation to owners and/or possibly reduced price on new battery (i/e upgrade). Maybe $1500 each so you can use it on new MCU2? :D - i wouldn't be surprised if that's what the thought process is...
