Tesla Job Faire cancelled today?

Something's going on. Not sure what. Anyone know what's going on in Fremont?

From Fremont Police Dept:

"Please avoid the area of Tesla Motors on Fremont Bl./Grimmer Bl. due to heavy vehicle traffic. Tesla's Job Faire has been canceled." In case you didn't know Tesla had an announcement earlier this week for a big job faire -- hiring people for vehicle assembly at the factory. For some reason, the local PD is saying that event is cancelled??

@fremontPD on Twitter.

However, someone tweeted this photo of the job fair which seems to be on, or at least was until it was not (maybe too many people showed up?):

True? Or was Fremont PD's twitter account hacked by the crazies that are putting flyers on Teslas in SF?

It's 29 miles from me and Waze is currently predicting a 32 minute drive. Doesn't sound like much traffic.

Go to the source. A few minutes ago Tesla tweeted:
Tesla’s job fair is closed for today. We urge those who we were unable to interview to go to*teslamotors.com/careers*and apply online.

Tesla Cancels Job Fair After It Reaches Max Capacity, Creates Traffic Jam

According to a tweet from the Fremont Police Department, the "overwhelming reponse" to Tesla's job fair resulted in a major backup on I-880.

Tesla Motors announced Saturday that it had to cancel its job fair in Fremont due to maximum capacity and traffic safety.

"Given the very high level of interest and after speaking with local law enforcement, out of consideration for the job seekers, the local community and motorists, Tesla decided to close today’s job fair," Tesla said in a statement to NBC Bay Area.

Hundreds of job seekers could be seen queuing up outside the Tesla factory in Fremont earlier Saturday morning. The job fair was originally scheduled to go on from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Tesla said in a tweet around 10 a.m. that it was closed down for the day.

I actually decided to stop by Fremont to check it out, and to use the supercharger. At 8am (the start of the event) the freeway was backed up both directions. I took a different exit and came in a back way. The campus was gridlocked, from both directions to the nearest freeway exits. The security guard I talked to, who escorted me past the lines to get to the supercharger (great customer service btw!), said they got way way more people than they expected . They were doing in person interviews, but stopped around 9, because they were totally unprepared for the number of people. They were simply taking resumes and telling people to leave when I got there. They are hiring between 2000-4000 new people at the factory for the expanded Model S and Model X line. He said both would be made on the same line.

I got the feeling the police were called in by Tesla, to help their staff who seemed overwhelmed with directing traffic, or just showed up when the massive traffic started, and were not excited to be directing all the unplanned for traffic.

I'm really excited about this planned ramp-up in production. This is good for everyone! People get jobs and more people buy Teslas. :-D.

Not only is Tesla trying to fill a large number of jobs but I think people are excited about working for a company that's the wave of a new future. I talked to a quite successful engineer today who would swap his current job for one with Tesla in a flash.

If Tesla allowed remote work from home for their software engineering work, I would switch over in a heartbeat to them too (can't physically move to Fremont for family reasons)

Yeah, the huge response doesn't mean all those people who showed up are currently unemployed. Not even close.

It it is a Saturday. Definitely had to attract a huge number of people that would like to change jobs who otherwise were not at work today due to the weekend.

I would swap in a heartbeat too. I would take a pay cut as long as I still made enough to pay off my model S.

Wow.

Who did you talk to that said they're hiring between 2000-4000 new people at the factory. Any indication of when the new jobs would start?
