Wiki Largest gaps between Superchargers on US Interstates

Not a Splitter!, but Tallahassee - Thomasville Rd, FL opened, replacing V2 Tallahassee, FL. On I-10 this V3 splits 83.4 miles, 61.3 miles from Marianna, FL and 23 miles to Lamont, FL

Don't worry. The NHTSA isn't a nanny. I wish all government was as utilitarian as the NHTSA.

Norway was going well with generous incentives, but what gave the biggest boost was the introduction of more affordable long-range BEVs. Part of the overall fast ramp of 2020 may have been that the regulatory change date became the release target for new models.

3-row SUV/CUV is over 10% of the US market. But I suspect it's a lot less of other markets. However, 3-row is a target of a lot of companies and it's a tougher challenge for EV at a time when the relatively high cost is a threat. Companies were fleeing sedans when Tesla released the Model 3...

USA Supercharger V4, Where? Why not?

No, it's just v3.5 chargers. I think new V3 installations have the V3 pedestal centered so they can be swapped out with V4 pedestals later.

    1) Market size: lower cost means lower prices, making it more than a cheaper taxi. A _lot_ more revenue is available if you can replace private ownership and rental. 2) Profit: lower cost, more profit 3) Competitiveness: a) Lower cost means lower prices allowing better competition in markets...

    Depressing trend in EV's..

The biggest no is amongst people with low incomes. That's the most telling problem, and one that has always needed to be solved (directly and indirectly) by the cost of EVs falling.

    Magic Dock

Probably has their own adapter. (Magic Dock allows any CCS car to use a Supercharger, but Ford and some other owners now have their own adapters so can use any V3 that has NACS charging (Tesla plug, CCS communication) enabled.) The issue of cable reach is part of the reason Tesla removed the...

Knee pain after coming from Toyota Land Cruiser

Have you mentioned this to your wife? I can imagine that many women would laugh at your "struggle". Yes, an X should be less likely to force you to go arse first. It's all about not hitting your head. Arse first allows you to lower your head position more easily and that's more important in...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I meant that when _not_ using a heat pump, you use efficient heat exchange (air conditioning) for cooling, and combustion of fuel for heating. So venting out the hot air just seems wasteful for those of us who live in cold climates. I guess it's the humidity of the air that's the issue. Maybe...

    Solar PV News

For reference: https://www.ferc.gov/staff-reports-and-papers Select "Energy Infrastructure" Open the document Search for "New Generation In-Service" and it shows a table by generation source. The page after that has the new total generation capacity. February was 1,043MW solar, 200MW wind...

Why does FSD keep changing lanes all the time?

It changes lanes for the same reason humans do: to get there faster. If you don't want it to behave like That Guy change the assertiveness mode.

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Well, the heat still has to go somewhere, but you're using generating less of it. I have a regular electric dryer and it's vented. I've always thought that odd in a place that needs net heating when cooling is cheaper than heating.

USA Supercharger V4, Where? Why not?

V3s are cheaper. They're also better for Teslas with thinner, lighter cables. They have been adjusting V3s and building V3s with V4 stall replacement in mind though.

Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

Note: I have a Kona EV, not a Tesla, so I'm not in the poll. Typical weeks are 3 times in winter, 2 times not in winter, but there are longer trip days where I plug in before and after. I think that makes it about 3 per week on average. In essence, we just can't be arsed to plug in every day...

Thanks. :) I've now removed that gap from my list. (It was on my original V3 Gap list made before I realized that that stretch was an I-64/I-81 concurrency. and I'd missed that Raphine and at least one other was on I-64 as well.) Yup, thanks. :) Copy-paste-forget-to-edit error. :)

OK, besides having not updated to Boise V3 I had missed the odd larger gap. I went through the Interstates and here's an updated list of V3 Gaps. There are 75 such gaps remaining. Nice semi-round number. Notes: (1) A V3 Gap is defined here as a distance between open V3+ Superchargers of 100...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

I get you need V >= Dv/(D-4v-L) Where V is passing speed in fps, v is passed vehicle speed D is passing distance, L is passed vehicle length and it's 4v allowing 2 second gap behind and in front. Also, I'm ignoring acceleration to passing speed. So, if a 75ft tractor trailer is traveling at...

AV would make pooling _way_ better and it'd be necessary for good economics because you can't have it be cheap and have a fleet size based on current peak traffic. I guess it _could_ be in the business park on the NW corner or in the vacant space on the NE corner. There are crosswalks at the intersection that would allow people to get to various amenities, and in particular a sidewalk could be used to get to an Exxon gas station.

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

Waymo uses HD mapping but it's not an inherent dependency. It gives confidence. The better the sensor-based model becomes the less benefit there is to the HD mapping. As I understand things it's anti-AA: your car is the member, not you. So if you have a Tesla and a Not A Tesla, you have to get membership to get lower pricing for your Not A Tesla. I think the messaging is unclear.
