I found the problem!
Exactly this! When I leased my two BMW i3 the sales rep didn't go out of their way to tell me the included charging cable is literally named "BMW Occasional Use Cable" (
I'm not making this up) and that you absolutely should not rely on it because it's a low quality, barely adequate POS. They also didn't say "Hey unlike Telsa, the navigation maps in your car are going to go out of date really fast and by the way BMW charges a whopping $400 (!) for each map update twice a year that you must
manually install via physical media if you actually want to rely on your navigation system."
It was 100% up to me to research and figure out these things on my own.
