...What I find surprising are the number of comments over the years regarding Roadster and Model S from those who cite price as an obstacle. Many of those same people will now be using one of the reasons listed.

I see it every weekend. Only in real-time. "That's a cool car." "Thanks,it's electric, it does XX and XX and does not XX." "But how much does it cost?" "XXX,XXX.xx" "Wow that''s way too much." Well Nissan makes the LEAF and after tax credits it's only XX.

vfx, we can add "eerily quiet" to the list of excuses. :smile:

Still not clear as to why someone would want noisy vehicles, particularly on highways.

The 100-mile range will be sufficient, he said, for most people and when it reaches 200 miles “in a few years”, range anxiety will fade.
Not quite. Offering the 200 mile range at the same price point however will lure many more customers.

That makes it € 6500 for a 24kWh pack (laminated LiIon). Or € 270 per kWh. About what I expected. Quite a difference to the 1000 per kWh that the naysayers want to make us believe.

Doing the calc the 54kWh pack of the TR is about € 15k. Add some for the assembling and sophisticated cooling and your right at the point at € 20k. I expect that TM calculated with even less per kWh for the Model S, taking the much higher volume of the 18650 format (and therefore lower price than the laminated ones) into account.

I think the $1000/kwh originated something like this.

Volt uses a 16kwh battery sourced @ $500/kwh. But they use only 8kwh of it - very conservative to assure 10 year warranty needed for hybrids. So, it becomes $1,000/usable kwh.

From here it has got morphed into $1,000/kwh (may be willfully by the critics).

The efforts include passing legislation that requires large parking lots to reserve spaces for electric cars, and other laws allowing the vehicles to park for free at state and county facilities and drive in HOV lanes with the proper vehicle plates.

The state also has been meeting with various charging companies, vehicle manufacturers and dealers to pave the way for adoption. One projection done for the state estimates as many as 10,000 cars on the roads will be electric powered in the next five years.

One reason is the 45-55 miles/charge. Could not find additional info on the upgrade (not that I looked too much!). I can see many stranded drivers in these. Would be better suited to NEV.
 
I disagree. 45-55 miles of range can be very useful, and is the high end of most DIY conversions out there, including mine. Limiting it to NEV status severely curtails it's usefulness. Even though my range needs are limited I have to be able to travel on 45-65mph roads, which NEV's can't.
