Delivery Day 12/21...My experience so far

Just a quick summary of my experience so far....

I ordered at the end of November through the website after I had been communicating with a Tesla rep, who's name I was given by another owner. He was super helpful. I wanted the carbon fiber trim that had been removed as an option but he told me he could add it after I placed my order and he did!

When I log into my account, the website does a mediocre job of providing updates. It seems to lag behind the actual status of the vehicle. Not a big deal but it would be nice if it were more accurate. The car was built and shipped to the East Coast in a timely manner. I called today and confirmed it has arrived.

Here comes the frustrating part. I was given a quote to trade-in my current vehicle and found out after I called my Delivery Specialist the quote was wrong and they are offering $2000 less than the original offer. No great explanation why and it is what it is. I understand I won't get top dollar but the convenience is worth it to me so I accepted the new offer. I just need to know all the numbers so I get my payment in order. I plan to borrow a small amount and write a check for the rest but I don't know how much to get from the bank and how much to bring with me. This would not be a big deal but I have to travel to another state to take delivery...oh and that location can't accept payment, which is now my problem. All of these things I need to figure out in the next 24 hours and I only learned this because I reached out to my Delivery Specialist.

I understand this is a new company and there is a big push for deliveries in 2018, but Tesla needs to improve if they want to be successful long term. As long as my car is solid when I arrive, I am sure the pleasure will far outweigh the frustration I feel now.

I will report back on the delivery process this weekend.

Been there, done that!

I think a large number of people agree with you about the delivery process. Just hang in there because as you said, if your car is solid, you're going to love it.

What I can offer in terms of advice is make the Delivery Specialists work for you. Stick on them like a messy *sugar*. The "payment module" that they should get in place on your account page should provide you with the final amount that you need to show up with and if it doesn't or is incorrect, ride them! Also, make sure it all matches your expectations on the paperwork you are presented with on your delivery day. Our paperwork didn't account for the $2500 deposit amount we already paid Tesla and I got blank stares when our check was $2500 short of what they were expecting. Took me running through the numbers and a quick visit to a back room at the delivery center to make it right.

Oh, and lastly, after you take delivery.... PICTURES!!!

I’m in Charlotte for delivery. Car is outside in the rain and the latest software is not downloaded. The car also has a few pretty major scratches in the hood. I showed the delivery manager and he said yep and was like so what. Not the way I wanted to start my ownership experience.

I wouldn't worry about the rain or the software version, those things are inconsequential. The paint defects though... I have a few on my X that are ridiculous... Tesla will fix them but it's frustrating and a hassle for sure that you shouldn't have to deal with...
