BMS_u031 - Battery fuse requires replacement soon - Some questions...?

Hello All,

Seems like several threads on this warning, but wanted to confirm some specifics and latest information:

1. My S is P100D, 2016.5, I scheduled service, but the nearest appointment available to me is over a month away! With this error, is the car actually safe to drive? Or should I be sidelined for until Tesla makes time for me? Should I drive with some precautions?

2. Can anyone confirm if Tesla will cover part or all of this repair under the 8 year battery warranty? I've read both ways. What's the latest?

3. If not covered by the Tesla battery warranty, do any of the 3rd parties cover this like CarShield or XCare?

4. Anything else I need to know?

Thank you all!

All Things Direct-To-Mobile

We don't have a consolidated place to talk about what's inevitably going to be the next surge in Space, so here it is. I'll summarize/editorialize on state-ish of the union (I'm sure I'm leaving some out):

--On Friday SN put out a generously titled article on Iridium's foray. For sure Iridium's existing network is much more capable than Globalstar's so its kinda reasonable for Desch to say they're not looking at a new constellation but can still provide, and I'll paraphrase here, "More than Apple", but...its still a pretty old school constellation that simply isn't going to move bits as efficiently as something brandy new. Yeah its only ~5 years old and is probably built for ~15, but Space is changing and, as has been made quite clear with the Starlink philosophy, its insane to think you're going to concurrently a) fully amortize a long life satellite and b) provide front-of-the-pack service. Anyway, good to see they're partnering with a phone maker (like Globalstar+Apple), as that's really the best way to get to market right now. Re-use of terrestrial mobile bands might be a viable long term solution, but...physics is real hard. Presumably Iridium's unnamed mobile partner is Samsung--that makes a lot of sense as they're the largest phone builder in the world. (Apple is #2)

--AST and SX/TM are both fixin on brandy new constellations so that's good from the service perspective, but like anyone that's looking to get into this space there's still going to be a bit of a capital and monetization problem. Noting that only a-holes quote themselves on the internet, this person has some good thoughts there.

--Lynk is making a similar "use terrestrial spectrum for DTM" play and, as linked in the above link, actually received FCC approval recently. They're even less well positioned than SX/TM at actually making something happen; its hard to imagine their end game being anything other than being acquired for their priority rights.

--eSAT global has apparently convinced Yahsat that they have something to offer. Yahsat acquired Thuraya (And their frequencies) a few years ago; their products in the MSS space are generally similar to what you can get from Iridium/Inmarsat and are generally pretty conservative relative to bit pushing. Certainly as priority L-band holders Yahsat thinking about how to get into the DTM space; like many CEOs Al Hashemi is super sharp and financially focused so he's not going to throw money at something that doesn't have a high probability ROI.

--Obviously, Apple/Globlastar is doing something with Globalstar's network. Apple put it in their product release in Sept; service is going to go live soon-ish...? Presumably this locks out Globalstar spectrum to other players, save for SX's attempt to steal it...

--We haven't heard much out of Ligado recently (who has some L-band), though I think this article means they're folding and selling off the asset. Not sure they're global and I don't think their filing is for super useful power levels, but that's a pretty valuable piece of real estate in the MSS space all the same.

--Finally, the Viasat purchase of Inmarsat [that's currently getting stuffed by The Brits] is probably going to be a major player in the DTM space one way or the other. Inmarsat is has good priority on global MSS frequencies and Dankberg is a pretty forward looking leader so he's probably going to take a little more risk with the traditionally very conservative Inmarsat spectrum use.

Is it time to dump and run?

I was prepared to stay with Tesla for a good while. Even though I cannot stand Elon.

I keep reading more and more about Elon firing left and right.

I suspect we’ll stop seeing software updates soon and soon it will be hard to get parts.

Elon looks like he is giving up and putting all chips on robotaxi and FSD.

I was hoping for an S/X based on all the updates in cybertruck.

Looking at Lucid Gravity but that won’t be available for a while. And they are not in great financial shape.

Range and efficiency is crap on so many EV’s

Australian Model 3 highland accessories

Howdy.
As the model 3 highland refresh roll out is in full swing i thought i would create a separate thread for highland specific accessories so the discussion can be moved from the model 3 waiting thread so it can stay on track.
During my wait for my 2024 m3 i started buying accessories and charging equipment from various places. In the following posts ill describe them.
I encourage everyone to post their findings and interoperability of parts from 2023 to 2024+ models so we can all learn together.
I especially encourage people to check our supporting vendors for accessories too!

MCU2 upgrade for AP1 cost?

I created a service request to update to MCU2 + radio for my 2016 MX, currently with AP1 and MCU1. I was expecting $1750 for MCU2 + $500 for radio. Estimate came with $2250 for MCU2 + $500 for radio. I pointed to the language on the website and they replied that the $1750 price is only for MS!?! I've now asked for where on the website the price is different for MS and MX, but they've gone silent. I will probably just cancel the appoint, since this is terribly frustrating.

Owners of Model S and Model X built March 2018 or earlier are eligible to purchase an Infotainment Upgrade, enabling access to some of our favorite features like video streaming and an expanded Tesla Arcade, in addition to a more responsive and faster touchscreen experience.

Owners of compatible vehicles can schedule an appointment through the Tesla app for purchase and installation. This upgrade is available for $2,250 plus applicable tax, including installation, for vehicles equipped with Autopilot Computer 2.0 or 2.5 and for $1,750 plus applicable tax, including installation, for all other vehicles. Owners may confirm Autopilot Computer type by selecting ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ > ‘Additional Vehicle Information’ on the touchscreen.

is this repairable or will it be totaled

IMG_8833.jpeg

This is the damage. For context… I was in my driveway getting ready to leave for a concert and my cousin was pulling in next to me to put his car in the garage… I had waved to him and out the car in reverse. I looked all around to make sure it was okay for me to back out. I started backing out of my driveway and suddenly someone came zooming behind me and i ended up hitting them. They were going really fast so i didn’t see them and the car never alerted me that someone was there. So i ended up with this kinda of damage… Luckily my car is still drive able but i want to know if its repairable or will it be totaled… Its a 2020 Model 3

How to create a bluetooth playlist in 2024.14?

Tesla software 2024.14.6 has a Playlist option in the Bluetooth section of the audio controls.

Any clues on how to make and use a bluetooth playlist? (I'm not finding anything in the Owner's manual, TMC, or the web.)
It'd be great to have the touchscreen select from the Pocket Casts queue and to play a YouTube Music playlist.

Elon take that strike back.

I’ve been Running on FSD12.6 which has been pretty solid till yesterday.

On a particular stretch of hwy 169 in south Tulsa the lanes get quite tricky. The two right lanes go to the right and wrap over to become the creek nation turnpike east, the center lane is an exit lane to 91st st and the left two lanes connect to the creek turnpike west.

Now, if you are coming up to this junction you had better have a plan in place in advance because lots of folks wait till the last minute to try and figure it out- which is a real problem and exactly how FSD 12.6 try’s to handle it.

While approaching this kerfuffle, I was looking for entry into the 91St st lane while monitoring FSD. When it became obvious that FSD was going to fail at this, and at the same time, I reached for the steering wheel all the FSD alarm violations went off and it shut down.

Now, this was the first time I had experienced this and with multiple cases converging at 70mph. I really did not have time to read the very informative but absolutely wrong screen stating I was in attentive and this was strike one. The car slowed immediately risking a rear end collision while barking orders at me.

I am relatively sure what I did avoided a 70 crash.

Anyway, I bring this before the Musk FSD court in hopes of a dismissal of the charge:)

I also hope this was captured via video for input into the library of things that could go wrong.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Welcome to the 2019 Investors' Roundtable. This year, we are not going to try to split discussions between a "Market Action" and a "General" thread, as years of experience has shown all are too enthusiastic about putting their opinions and observations in a fairly random dispersion.

So post here - but as a specific topic gets discussed over a series of posts, we'll split it off to its own thread; this Master Thread will serve as the catch-all unless and until such a pattern emerges.

Othermod: Even better if you split it out yourselves, don't wait for us. --ggr.

Until midnight on 31 December...in some time zone...this thread will remain locked. You are encouraged to post away in the 2018 threads until then, at which time those will be locked.

With the key thrown away!

Happy New Year, all.

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

Hi all,

I hear about opportunities for good savings using Amber and high feed in payments at certain times in NSW, for example.

I am currently with another provider, with a reasonable plan, with a couple of PW2s, and a 3 phase system. I did try Amber for a little while over summer, but just didn’t see the benefit with such large amounts of renewables in the market. Aware that I didn’t persevere however for more than a few weeks

Considering re-trying, but is there anyone around in metro Victoria that has tried this for any period of time? What are your experiences with general FITs vs. periods where there is a short-term high FIT?

Thanks!

2023 Model X "Forgets" XM Favorites.

"All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again" - BSG. (Peter Pan First).

Well, everyone it appears that even though this was fixed in my 2019X (long after I sued and won) (read about it here).

Tesla is back with an inability to make things such as "wipers" and "radios" work.
But Yeah FSD... that's totally a thing they can do ;).

Anyway, here's the issue: (The car forgets how favorites work after parked 30 min).

I assume it's firmware, and I assume I'm not the only one affected.
I'll put in a polite ticket in a week or so, and go from there.

Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

After my third drive unit failure in less than 100,000 miles, I'm checking on a class-action against Tesla. This equates to a gas car blowing an entire engine every 33,000 miles. The Tesla shop will not provide the old DU even after a non-warranty repair, because they say "Tesla owns the old parts". I can never get a failed drive unit for an expert failure mode analysis, but having seen others who did this they report a consistent finding: Tesla mis-engineered the seals allowing coolant to leak into the DU over time, causing failure consistently, basically a guarantee. Failure in my case was sudden and catastrophic with no warning, while driving down a busy highway. This dangerous fault is also a major profit source for the repair centers which is something Elon Musk was absolutely adamant would not happen. He also touted his million-mile motor from the start. The DU failure is likely to happen beyond the warranty, bringing in $7000 to the repair center. If you had a gas vehicle that blew its engine every 33,000 miles, there would be a lawsuit. I'm wondering if a class action has already been filed or if there are enough people to start one?

Help adjusting coilovers

Hi friends, I installed ST XA coilovers 2 weeks ago. I’ve been trying to make all 4 corners even with a 1.5” drop or at least make the fronts even and backs even, but the task seems impossible. Whenever I raise or lower one wheel, the other 3 wheels will raise or lower an unpredictable amount and I never know if it will be raised or lowered. How did you go about leveling all 4 corners when adjusting one corner drastically changes other corners? Here are the best numbers I was able to get so far just randomly raising and lowering at arbitrary amounts:
Perch height/Fender to top of rim height in mm
Driver Front 126/130.8
Passenger Front: 115.1/135.1
Passenger Rear 44.4/133.4
Driver Rear: 44/140.5

The fronts tend to raise and lower together, for example raising the driver front 3mm will also raise the passenger front 2mm. Seems like I keep chasing evenness, but can never achieve. Then the rears also change, which also affects the front. Please help, what are your strategies? This seems to be more of a Tesla specific issue with the incredibly rigid frame, I hadn’t had this problem on my 94 Honda Prelude with coilovers.
