Production delays in Black Multi-Pattern Seats

I think you are caught up in the same BMP seat replacement delay as I.

Over on the TM forums, I noticed 3 other posters with 22xx VINs saying that their deliveries targeted for this week were delayed.
Now I'm wondering if there's anything systemically wrong with the cars in that batch that's taking them longer to be QCed.

Anyone else?

Heard from the Tesla delivery team today that the delay is due to them waiting for BMP seats to be delivered from the manufacturer (?) (which is weird since we've had a few deliveries already with them) and that it might be a few more weeks(!) for delivery.
The horror.

What a painful experience for you. Thankfully it'll be history at some point and you'll laugh (with tears in your eyes) about the wait. Expectation management failure ==> maximum.

Apologies for the delay - I've been neck deep at work.

I picked up my car on 04/25. Model X 90D non-Premium features, BMP seats, Hi-fi sound, Two package, Multi-coat red. VIN 22XX

- Tesla almost got everything right :) So near yet so far, I felt, when I discovered the problem. There was a small gap between the window glass and a black trim piece in on the driver's door. Which meant that wind leaked through, and on the highway, it created a loud noise that was unbearable. We discovered it as soon as we hit I-880 from the Fremont factory. On the plus side, this was the only issue - everything else was flawless.

- The pick-up experience was a bit awkward. The Tesla professional there wants to get you out of the door as quickly as possible. I pushed back a few times, but ultimately wrapped up my inspection - and then immediately regretted it when I found the wind-leak. In hindsight, it wouldn't have made much difference if I had found it in the pickup center. But - I did feel crappy that they tried to rush me.

- To fix the wind leak problem, I called up service centers - and no service center all the way from Marin county to Santa Barbara could accommodate us for 5 week! This was the shittiest part of the whole experience. My brand new car was not driveable for 5 weeks?

- Thankfully, one creative idea popped up - my family had wanted to do a roadtrip to San Diego with the brand new car anyway. I had thought it impossible after discovering the problem. But I then inquired and the SD service center could accommodate me the next week! So we effectively drove 500 miles to get a freaking wind leak fixed - but also got a nice roadtrip out of it. On the way to SD, I used a piece of cloth to patch the thing, so that the noise was down to bearable levels.

- The SD service center experience wasn't smooth - they were being very non-committal about fixing the problem. (Imagine having driven 500 miles to *not* get it fixed!) But to their credit, they worked hard and overnight - and fixed the wind leak completely. Quiet car on the drive back.

- Apart from all of this - the car is a joy to drive. This hulking 7-seater SUV handles better than conventional 2-dr coupe. The acceleration even without Performance package is enough to raise goosebumps. Our elderly parents loved the falcon wing doors, because it made it so much easier for them to get in and out of the car. They commented that they hardly felt tired after a day of riding.

- The BMP seats are super comfortable. I have had leather seats in last 3 cars - and I don't feel any difference either way. One tie-breaker in favor of BMP is that child car seats will have far less impact on the BMP seats compared to any leather seats.

- I had a model S P90D loaner in SD while my X was getting fixed. The sound system on that car was the base version. Having heard that sound I was *so glad* that I got the hi-fi sound in my X. I think the hi-fi system in X is about as good as a premium sound system in other luxury cars - no better - but if the base version was about the same as what I heard in that S, I'd have been very unhappy with a base version.

Would you mind posting a pic of the window area that was a problem? I'm guessing it's the front portion where it contacts the triangular fixed glass. Aesculus (I think, or another user here) had mentioned in another post that he "tucked" the window into a sleeve/pocket in the gasket, which seemed to solve his problem.

I actually am not having any problems with mine, but am curious whether mine is just lucky with an improper gasket fit, and whether it's something I can try to "fix" myself.

Awesome. That's a good sign for mine too. I know I won't be picking it up that weekend though as I will be away on a trip that I had hoped to take the MX on, ironically. I'll be checking my email until then...

Got the email from my DS today. Pick up this Saturday (5/21) at the factory.
We're deferring the factory tour by a few weeks to bring some family along, but I'd rather get the car now :)

Just got the same call for 5/21 pickup today. Unfortunately I will be out of town so it has to wait until 2pm on Monday 5/23. Please let us know any issues you spot at pickup as our builds are very similar.

So, 3 years and 14 days after I placed my reservation, 6 months and 21 days after our order and a painful 51 days after our original delivery date, we picked up my 90D, VIN 2279 this morning at the factory.

We arrived at the factory in our loaner Nissan Rogue (awful car, btw) just in time for our 11am appointment and was met at the delivery center by our delivery orientation specialist (DoS) who got us signed in and told us he would meet us right after the factory tour.

The factory tour was, without a doubt, amazing. We saw far more than I expected to see and were closer to the action than I had ever been in any other factory tour (the Boeing factory being my main comparable prior tour). The tour guide was knowledgable and was genuinely passionate about Tesla's mission and products besides being an car geek. If you haven't taken the tour yet, stop what you're doing and get an appointment now :)

After the tour, we were taken back to the delivery center, where I did the final paperwork and took delivery of the car.

Delivery experience

- There were only 2-3 other deliveries at that time (another X and maybe 2 S), which was surprising since I would have thought that Saturday morning would be a popular time.
- The DoS spent over an hour with us, giving us a detailed overview of the exterior features and charging, interior and came with us for the first drive where he talked through the autopilot. He was thorough and very helpful.
- My DS only dropped by once to say hello - that was surprising as I thought she would have been the one to do the orientation with us. It didn't matter as the DoS did an excellent job.

Fit, Finish and Options:

- The car had 12 miles on it at delivery, lower than I expected.
- Fit and finish was good - there weren't any obvious blemishes or scratches when we took delivery. We did notice a couple of door trims that weren't perfectly cut and a plastic piece of the front passenger's seat had a gap in it. We noticed all this after we had driven out of the factory. The 3rd row seats looked a lot better that some of the other earlier deliveries I had seen photos of on the forums - no exposed wire or poorly cut carpeting.
- Love the Obeche Matte trim. I can see why they made it an upgrade in current builds :)
- The black multi-pattern seats are great! They look richer in person and the pattern adds visual texture to them and I'm now glad my last minute change to the black leather seats fell through.
- We got the sunshade, FYI @K-MTG - haven't had a chance to try it yet since it was mostly cloudy today in NorCal
- There was a well packed box with the 2" hitch and a wire for the tow adapter - this was surprising since we had ordered only the hitch, not the tow package. The DoS said it was super simple to install them, so we didn't walk through it during delivery.
- There was a box with the blind holster kit in the glove compartment. I didn't try installing it since my phone is a USB-C and the kit only had only µUSB and lightning adapters.
- We got the standard audio and it sounds, well, standard. The audio is generally acceptable and didn't exceed even my low expectations.
- The spoiler is fixed :( Congrats to those who got the non-P with active spoilers, but it looks like that party has ended.

The first 100 miles:
After pick up and a quick lunch, we drove down to Santa Cruz along I-880 and 17 and then back up to San Francisco via Half Moon Bay along US-1.
- The car is amazing. It drives like a dream and even with no P and no L, the acceleration is like nothing I've experienced so far.
- It took me about 30 seconds to trust the autopilot features - might have something to do with all the Tesla videos I've watched in the past few months. Autopilot worked flawlessly, through the heavy traffic in San Jose, the curvy mountains roads on 17 and the ups and downs along US-1. Of the 100+ miles I put on the car today, about 80 were in Autopilot mode.
- No issues so far with the doors or windows. I was stopped on a shoulder along US-1 and tried to open one of the falcon wing doors against a strong wind and it stopped early, but that is potentially by design.
- I think I saw @ohmman on a ride on the Santa Cruz boardwalk: https://goo.gl/photos/WYeQbfJsJBbvMu1P6
- Parking the car in our tiny garage was tricky. The falcon wings barely open and the rear liftgate hit the garage roof when it opened - I remember reading that there was a way to set the max height for the opening, but I can't find it now.

Congrats! You finally got it! Blue looks stunning. Last night I went to the Tesla sales in Boca and asked if they had any time to let me drive the MX again and they kindly obliged. I have test driven a P90DL X once before for about 15min. This time they had a MC Red 90D, I agree that the acceleration in the 90D is more than adequate for most folks, in fact it is FAST! We also got to drive a MS P90DL for comparison... Ludicrous! It was my first time in a MS, Im dually impressed and excited about what Tesla has been able to accomplish with the challenges of manufacturing such a complex object. The VIN of the MX was in the 2200's as well and fit and finish was excellent, panels were aligned and we tested the doors several times. Actually, when we pulled over to switch drivers we parked under a tree with some low hanging branches, the FWD stopped about 1" away from the lowest branch without touching the door, Sales Associate actually took some pictures of it. The space behind the third row seat that had exposed metal showing was covered in this vehicle, but was exposed in the P90DLX we drove last time. Tesla must me actively following TMC which in my opinion is the best thing they could do this early. There's a ton of data for them here.

Raise your liftgate, stopping it with your hand midway. If yours is anything like mine, this takes more force than you'd think is necessary. Once it's stopped, manually raise it to the "safe" level you'd like, and press and hold the close button on the bottom of the liftgate. It'll give you a long beep and become your new max height.

We've been asking for GPS safe limits for the Model S for years, so that we can open fully in the outdoors. This is even more important with the Model X because the gate is bigger, the car is higher, and it leaves a much smaller opening when out "in the wild".

Congrats. Really glad it finally happened for you after all the disappointment.

@umeshummi: congrats, that looks amazing.

Sad to hear about the spoiler but oh well. Glad to hear about the sunshade. It is harder and harder to have to wait for mine now.

You might have been better off not getting yours earlier (now that you have it). It sounds like the build quality is quickly improving.

@umeshummi A BIG Congratulations. It has been long road with a lot of false starts. It must feel really good to have finally got it. You could call your X Godot. I am looking forward to your pics of the textile seats. I guess your textile seats are the ones from the new supplier? I am glad you are so pleased with them. That makes me feel more confident I will like mine too.
