World’s First Offshore Wind Repowering Completed in Sweden

This works out to 3.4 US cents a kWh over the next 15 year lifetime, excluding financing and O&M. It is great news that the infrastructure can be re-used.

:: two thumbs up ::

The truly interesting snippet in the article was that the turbine size refurbishment was limited by the transmission cable. Had they been able to take advantage of more capacity, plans to increase the turbines to 5 MW instead or the original 500 kW would have been considered.

side note: Who pays for "using the oceans" ?

Fishing ?
Shipping ?
Wind Farms ?

So far as I know, the only industry which is making lease payments to use our oceans are offshore wind farms.
Just to top it off the government have started to demand grid connection to be paid by RE [Renewable Energy] projects (have always been paid by the grid operator for all kind of electric power generation). And finally offshore wind power is now to pay lease for the ocean. Something the fishing industry, the shipping industry and fish farm industry does not do. Further the oil and shipping industry have huge tax benefits not extended to the offshore wind industry.
