It's a shame they canned the brown. It was a very nice colour.

Couldn't agree more. Seems like someone at TM has a thing against earth tones. I'm a little hopeful that the Titanium color floated in another thread is a serious option.

Seems Tesla had already a picture of the new blue at the Geneva Motorshow ... was talking to a sales about the new blue, obviously they do not know anything, but were wondering themselves about the picture at the Motorshow of an unseen blue Tesla ...

Since this is the new paint shop thread, how is it going?

Is it on schedule? What features other than low environmental emissions will it have that make it "the best paint shop in the world?"

Will paint be more durable? When will cars be delivered with the new paint and process? What will the changes in paint formula be? Will Tesla use the same paint supplier?

What will Tesla do with their existing paint shop? Dismantle it? Offer custom colors in low volume at a high price?

Etc.

By the codes it looks like black metallic will be priced like the other metallic but the ocean blue and titan liks the other premium colors. Is the blue ocean and titan multicoat then? Do lookmlike that...

More than likely any color they choose for the Signature Model X will upset someone as hopefully they choose a color people like similar to Signature Red.

Real-world pics of Ocean Blue have been posted here. It looks like the price remains at $1000 despite having a premium color code.

Doesn't it look like from the codes that Ocean Blue and Titanium are Multicoat as well ... PPxx like the other multicoats?

Here's something more relevant to the paint shop. I came across this post:


I recognized that the paint code is the same one that goes in the URL for the Design Studio preview images and confirmed that they work.

Simply replace xxxx in the URL with the code in lower-case.

By saving the Design Studio page (complete, including files) and changing the image source at line 252 to the respective one above, I was able to get the new colors to show in the previewer as intended. FYI, the page needs to be saved and modified for each angle you want to see.

After doing that, this is what it looks like for Titanium:

To correct myself: on the TSLA website Design Studio page that color is called "Warm Silver". So let's stop calling it Titanium.

I don't know about the paint quality, but I certainly think the color choices available are inferior to BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche.

I am not sure if this is a matter of limitations of the paint shop, or Tesla just having different tastes in colors.

agree. maybe they are waiting for the new paint shop to really open things up and add a slew of colours, but for now on a 'relative to other car companies' basis, Tesla is lagging. I would really like to see something like the diamond dust paint Fisker used (anyone see these in the sun? wow!). Probably flashy for some, but nice to have a choice.

I would settle for a silver or light gray. Still can't believe Tesla is the only car maker that does not offer silver or a light gray.

From a talk at TMC Connect from a VP of Manufacturing, the new paint shop is coming on line now, will ramp up over a month or so, and then the old line will be taken off line.

With a few Model X recent mule pics in different colours (blue, red and grey see below) , I'm wondering if the paint shop is near completion. I sure hope some new colours are available for both S&X. Anyone hear anything upcoming or know if custom colours are going to be offered?
