Surprised by this week’s price action, but that’s a fairly typical situation most weeks……. Have the following 0DTE CC: $145 — shares purchased last week at $144 + $5 sto intended as a buy-write = $6 profit; will probably let these assign, then rebuy shares and sto a 4DTE ATM on Monday for ~$4...

You may have to roll out several months to improve strike price significantly. How badly do you want to keep the shares? You could roll at $130 for some time and see if SP drops which will give you more flexibility / affordability to improve strikes.

This is a great move. Softening growth rates for 3/Y —> new “hybrid” models asap on current production lines/capacity as a transition point to RT/$25k models. With all our speculation about possibilities, we didn’t come up with this one!!

Might roll half of 26Apr$155 to twice as many 26Apr$162.50 for some cushion in case of an ER spike, still expecting a drop. This would raise % of shares covered from 70% to 85% through Friday when 40% should expire, so still some reserve in case have to rescue the remaining $155.

It really isn’t complicated, like you say she has concentration targets = sell when high, buy when low (as determined by variances in concentration vs target rather than market timing). It would be interesting to see what ARK could do with a TSLA-only ETF, I’d buy some.

Dipping my toes — bought back x00 shares at $148 sold a few weeks ago for $173 in an IRA account. A GTC limit order is in for the other half (x00) at $140. Total increase of 5%.

It may be time to limit options activity to VERY OTM (like 25% monthlies), accept the pennies and nickels, and wait it out, i.e., HODL.
  28. CHGolferJim

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

Rolled out of “25% OTM 6-month” positions that targeted 50% returns before closing into a short-term play that appears will expire after the ER, then will sit back and let the dust settle: 20Sep$210 and $230 (20% of shares) —> 3May$165 (now half of shares) for a pittance cost of $160 26Apr$155...

Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

Rolled 12Apr$155 to 26Apr$155 — $2.95 credit, reduced # contracts (on about a quarter of total shares), still positioned for a post-ER dip; a roll to $165 would have required increasing contracts to secure a credit.

Agree, did half from 12Apr$155 to 3May$165 for -$1.40 a few days ago. Held half hoping to do better (less debit), will look at it over the weekend. Think today’s whipsaw will raise IV?

And I have -155CC for next week. Looks pretty certain will need to roll out past 4/23, trying to decide on $155-$165 as I still expect an eventual swoon after ER, but lower BB is suggesting won’t go below $160 for very long if at all.

I tend to look at LEAPs as riskier alternatives to TSLA shares. So I don’t get the risk:reward at constant IV — e.g., a 31% gain in SP from 26Mar24 to 29Apr25 returns 40% on $174 LEAPs, but with downside risk. Are LEAPs largely a bet on a change in IV?
