Want to also know about the status of gigafactory in Buffalo and given the expected exponential growth were are other gigafactories are going. More interested in finding out where the challenges and difficulties are and how they are addressing them, than cheerleading conference call

There still remains the question of where Tesla is making their new inverter. Some folks are speculating it's just a re-branding of a Delta inverter, but I think it's being made in Buffalo.

Biden just announced he will replace all federal vehicles with zero emission union built electric vehicles made in America. (Paraphrased). So much for Tesla.

I'm bullish on the comment. That'll lead for more demand for clean energy generation, management, and consumption and grow the overall pie of demand for EVs and making the market size even greater. Tesla has enough of the demand pie outside of the US Govt fleet to satisfy (which will take a long time to phase out of ICE) to leave for the rest of the US auto manufacturers.

Whether Tesla workers join a union is up to the workers, not management. Elon has reminded us of that. As long as the workers are happy with the pay, conditions and stock options, that would likely remain the case, and the government should be pleased that unionizing is not necessary.

It gets even better. Biden's plan to replace government fleet with electric vehicles won't be so easy:
"Reality check: Right now, not a single model fits the president's criteria: battery-powered, made in America, by union workers.
  • Tesla produces the vast majority of EVs in the U.S., and all of its models contain at least 55% American-made parts, according to federal data. But Tesla doesn't have a union and CEO Elon Musk has run afoul of federal labor laws.
  • General Motors' Chevrolet Bolt is the only U.S.-built EV made by union labor. But it's made mostly with parts imported from Korea. Just 24% of the content is considered domestic.
  • The Nissan Leaf, another popular EV, is made in Tennessee. But the factory is non-union and only 35% of the parts are domestic."

Reuters - this morning: Biden to pause oil and gas leases, cut subsidies in climate action

Excerpt:

President Joe Biden was set on Wednesday to sign executive actions to combat climate change, including pausing new oil and gas leases on federal land and cutting fossil fuel subsidies as he pursues green policies in stark contrast to those of his predecessor Donald Trump.

This!! Also, these workers will go home and drive their ICE vehicles to instantly realize they want an EV. Cross shopping between EVs will lead the majority of them to Tesla

I can not find any evidence that the President said anything about union workers. Just "made by Americans".

The announcement definitely had a lot of stuff earmarked for the unions, but the part about cars just talked about "Made in America", so I don't think we can write this off just yet.

"The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean, electric vehicles made right here in America by American workers, creating millions of jobs — a million autoworker jobs in clean energy — and vehicles that are net-zero emissions.
And together, this will be the largest mobilization of public investment in procurement, infrastructure, and R&D since World War Two.
And with the executive order I’ll be signing today, we’ll increase Buy American requirements for these kinds of projects and improve the way we measure domestic content requirements. For example, right now, if you manufacture a vehicle for the federal government, you need to show that at least 50 percent of the components of that vehicle were made in America. But because of loopholes that have been expanded over time, you can count the least valuable possible parts as part of that 50 percent to say “Made in America,” while the most valuable parts — the engines, the steel, the glass, the manufac- — are manufactured abroad.
So basically — but basically we’re batting zero for two. The content threshold of 50 percent aren’t high enough. And the way we measure the content doesn’t account for U.S. jobs and economic activity. We’re going to change that as well.
The executive action I’m signing today will not only require that companies make more of their components in America, but that the value of those components is contributing to our economy, measured by things like a number of American jobs created and/or supported."
