Tesla didn't transfer my old license plate

We love our new MS but the purchasing process itself has been less than adequate. When we took delivery last month, I told the delivery team I wanted to transfer the license plate from my old car which we were selling. They told me they couldn't do that, that I would have to take the new license plate they were going to send to me over to the DMV and have them handle it.

Well, the confirmation email I received from Tesla a few days before receiving the new plate in the mail explained what to expect if I were (1) receiving a new plate, or (2) transferring an existing plate. So clearly, transferring the plate was in fact an option, the delivery team was just misinformed or had a brain fart.

I dropped by the DMV today and they also confirmed that yes, Tesla could have transferred the plate from my old car. It would just involve completing a different form than the one they had me complete.

The kicker to all this is that the DMV charged me $30 to transfer the plate (so I'm out $30 because of Tesla's mistake), and on top of that I'm having to pay the $1100 property tax TWICE. Once now, and once next month which is when my original vehicle's plate was due for renewal (property tax follows plates in my state). Once I've paid twice I have to get in touch with my state's Dept. of Revenue to request a refund of the duplicate payment.

So not only am I out $30, I'm also out an extraordinary amount of time spent waiting in the DMV's office and visiting the Dept. of Revenue to get the duplicate payment refunded.

All of this could have been avoided had Tesla transferred the plate to begin with as I requested.

I dropped an email to my delivery specialist to ask what they can do for me, but I'm assuming I'm probably not going to get a good response. If I don't, what's the next step? Should I contact corporate? What's the best way to do that? Should I complete the contact form in the My Tesla area? Is there a phone number for corporate? An email address?

If someone who has done this before can fill me on in the best way to get this issue noticed, I'd sure appreciate it.

They did the same for me in San Diego despite emailing the delivery coordinator in Las Vegas about it twice to which I never received a reply. At delivery I was told I had to go to the DMV with the old plates once the new plates arrive. Not a great experience.

I had to chase down my DS and then store manager to get my plates 2 months after I purchased my car, Tesla needs to take a good look at their process around titling and registrations. The customer service experience goes down the drain when they screw up the details. Escalate it with whoever you can find, until you find someone who is willing to help.

I would try every avenue you can possibly find including the "My Tesla" page's escalate for executive review contact form.

I think while in general, for me, Tesla service has been mostly good, but even for me in Hong Kong, I do find that many of their staff are under-educated about their own product and services, including the associated processes (registrations and such).

And so it seems it is a wide spread problem that is not localised in any particular locale.

Same for me. Supposed to get my tags before the temp tags they put on expired. They didn't and it took an act of congress to get them to handle this. Lots of excuses from lots of people at Orlando Tesla Store (as always) but no action until I complained to Tesla national.
