Tesla delayed delivery and refuses to honor agreed to price?

I signed everything, agreed to financing, paid downpayment, agreed to and paid for insurance for a Tesla Model Y due for delivery tomorrow afternoon.
Two hours ago, I get a call saying the truck is delayed, which means my car is no longer available before April 1st, and I basically need to get a different inventory car.

I currently don't have a car and have been getting Ubers/renting a car. The delivery center is 2+hours away and $100+ for a rental.

Three options
  1. Same car, later delivery date, pay $1000 more because I can't keep the same deal that we already agreed to.
  2. Similar car, same delivery date, pay $2000 more.
  3. Upgrade to LR and pay $5000 more.
Are these really my only options?

I was told that If i sign and pay for it, they will hold it for me until I can pick it up in April.
I have a shipping arrangement in April as I'm on an outer island and have to fly over to and drive it to the port. I don't see why they won't do the same elsewhere. Tesla seems to be changing their policy all the time. They used to ship it to us.

Inventory cars you are generally SOL because deals that apply to a particular car does not necessarily apply to a replacement vehicle.

And the quarter end incentives tend to only apply to cars delivered before that date, since a car delivered afterwards no longer can count in that quarter (doesn't matter that it was delayed due to transport, accounting doesn't allow them to count it in the previous quarter). Not sure how much leeway Tesla delivery people has to make exceptions.

You have a different situation, since presumably your delivery date is before the end of the month given presumably your delivery center has received the vehicle and your paperwork will say you took ownership before April. Then they are only holding it in storage for your convenience (like if you dropped the car off at the service center for needed fixes).

The OP is in a different situation given the car is still in transit and legally they can't take ownership yet even if they sign all the paperwork and pay.

This is good information even if it sounds like I'm SOL. Pretty disappointing

Depending on the length of delay I say stick with option one and tell them to eat the additional $1,000. It’s no your fault that it’s arriving late.

Tesla doesn't ship and deliver new cars to Big Island customers? You have to fly to Oahu and put it on a ship yourself? How do they handle warranty service that rangers can't do, do they make you pay to ship it both ways?

They shipped my model s and model 3 to me in 2017 and 2019 And flew over a delivery specialist to meet me with the documentation. They told me they no longer do this and I have to take delivery in honolulu. I think this is going to hurt their outer island sales.
They do have a full time mobil service tech on the big island and the guys from Maui still fly over to help out on occasion. There have been rumors for about 5 years now about a service center opening here, but I still had to ship or model 3 back to oahu for an inverter / drive unit isssue.

This is horrible customer service. Arbitrary, boiler room, alpha insanity. What outside of engineering does Tesla really get right?

Update: I spoke to a new rep this morning and they are honoring the original price.

Considering I already paid the downpayment for financing, insurance, and signed some registration docs, it was strange that they didn't offer this during the first conversation.

I was expecting some compensation (supercharging, accessories, 1 week of FSD) but nothing was offered.

I believe Tesla is offering one month of free FSD to all cars equipped with necessary hardware… but glad to hear they honored the price. My daughter’s new Y was picked up a couple days ago and broke down on the drive home… towed to SC and given a loaner. After a back/forth with SC and delivery center all types of options were discussed (fix, possible replacement, etc). I told her hold firm and tell them you’re not keeping that specific car… need a new one. She’s picking an entirely new car up tomorrow and it has an additional discount to boot.

Pickup of replacement this morning (Easter)… car was built in Fremont and was straight, no gaps, no paint issues. To boot the price for the replace t car dropped another 1500 bucks from two days ago (car #1 pickup).. so they are cutting her a check for the difference.

TSLA doesn't really negotiate. Either cancel or new order at new incentives due to 3/31 cutoff

so... Cancellation Request Date 03/31/2024 Refund Total Payment 01/01/2024 Refund will be sent to card $250.00 Total $250.00 Return to Account. Atleast they didn't keep my order fee

Hope next Q incentives are better..

where was the previous car built?
First car was a Fremont build and had some small paint imperfections (micro bubbles) but panels were good… she refused it and was immediately offered a new car the same day (within hours). The replacement car was an Austin build, flawless paint, minor door panel rear doors that they said would be adjusted… and it broke down on the ride home and towed immediately to the SC. The 3rd and final car was a Freemont build and was flawless from my inspection. She’s had it for a few days (picked up on Easter) annd everything seems in order🤞🏼 … for her troubles the price was $1500 cheaper.
