Can Model S be produced for $55K to qualify for federal tax credit?

S/X remain relatively complex and expensive to produce. For all the minor improvements they are manufactured more or less the same way they were a dozen years ago. I don't think they could hit a $55k price target - that would also maintain a margin that would make it worth their while -...

So this is what 3rd-party dealers do to P-series Tesla vehicles; enjoy!

I kinda assume every used performance car has a graph that looks more or less like that.

    Wireless Charging Not Good

This is really the way… it’s the only option to ensure reliable fast charging across a range of devices. Charging pads that don’t have alignment mechanisms are necessarily going to be a compromise because of varying phone form factors. My iPhone 13 Pro charges reasonably well on the Model 3/Y...

    Camera Vieu after incident

Dash cam footage rolls over pretty quickly unless you save a clip by tapping the icon on the screen. I also recommend enabling the automatic save on honk option - then a clip will be saved any time you use your horn.

The few times Tesla has addressed battery degradation, they have simply lied and dismissed it.

Setting aside the rest of your rant - if you need more range, charge more. This argument that your range is lower because you refuse to change above 80% is nonsense. If you need more range, you have it literally any time you need it. As for me - I put almost 200,000 miles on a 2016 Model S 75...

Safe way to clean the cars charge port?

It’s basically impossible to get shocked. Clean it with compressed air, Q-tips, electronics cleaner, metal rods, whatever you want.

Paint bubble warranty denied model y 2023

For what it’s worth, the new car warranty does specifically exclude “any corrosion or paint defects”: All the same, that’s pretty egregious. I would file for arbitration. If that doesn’t work I’d take them to small claims court.

Over 7 years and 200k miles I had to replace my Model S windshield once. So far so good on the 3 and Y.

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

There’s really very little difference from a “battery health” perspective. The recommendation to charge LFP to 100% is a BMS calibration thing, not because the batteries actually like being charged to 100%. The “damage” caused by charging NCA/NCM cells to 100% is vastly overstated.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Nah dawg, I’m with you. I was being facetious. Others in this thread are arguing that Tesla was a complete outlier and voluntarily dropped prices to sell cars for way less than necessary just to screw customers that bought at the top of the bubble. My point is that’s absurd and the people mad...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Along with every other EV that someone bought in 2021 or 2022 for way over MSRP, but apparently that didn’t actually happen because only the MSRP matters for resale and depreciation , right? 👍🏻

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

What evidence do you have to support this claim? You’re basically suggesting the entire used car market is fooled by opaque dealer pricing games and that people have no idea what cars are actually transacting for and what they’re worth because of an arbitrary number on a window sticker...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Rationalization by acknowledging the simple economics of the situation? I guess. Maker vs. dealer doesn’t really matter IMO… the outcome for the consumer is the same in either case and Tesla is no particular outlier in the general transaction price trends across the industry over the last...

How do I lift/jack my LFP Model 3?

I guess because people buy them and places like this have been successful in making folks think their EVs are Fabergé eggs that can’t be lifted just like every other car on the road without destroying the battery or starting a fire.
  18. ucmndd

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

An easy claim to make when you scope the argument to MSRP - an artificial distinction. Plenty of other cars transacted for roughly equivalent discounts on a percentage basis over the same period. It’s also worth noting you can only get to “$50k” in reductions if you conveniently ignore the...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Asking price =\= selling price. Tesla’s job is to sell cars. They can ask whatever they want but the market sets the price people will pay. This is really simple stuff. Difference without a distinction, other than the dealer model being far more opaque. Everyone who bought any new car from...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Tesla doesn’t set prices, the market does. Buying a new car at the height of a massive bubble is not a “sound financial decision.” Buying a new car rarely if ever is, bubble or not. Blaming an automaker - whose literal job is to sell cars at a price the market will bear - for your bad...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I guess I fundamentally reject the idea that one is better than the other or that it’s somehow “big solar’s” fault and they’re ruining it for everyone like the word “culprit” implies. Grid-scale renewables would seem to have a very important part in the overall greening of the grid and it’s...

Best Way To Hardwire Tesla Wall Connector with Existing Wires?

A clarification that those aren't knockouts... they're just molded impressions in the plastic showing where to drill... they aren't really any weaker or less structurally sound than any other part of the housing.

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Of course. But ultimately it doesn’t really matter. We have saturated the grid with solar to the point that prices are going negative during peak production. There’s very limited value to adding more without associated storage and utility rates are of course going to start reflecting that fact…

Vehicle to PhotoVoltaic PV Inverter DC discharger available?

Which they most certainly did not intend to power your home. 👍🏻
  31. ucmndd

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Not so sure I agree with that. Most people have little to no grounding in how electricity works (pun intended) and don't inherently grasp why they shouldn't be paid handsomely for their excess solar output in the middle of the day when the sun is shining.
  32. ucmndd

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

You're right, to the extent that you can store and consume it on site. As for grid-tied systems without storage, it seems we're already well past peak financial benefit and the economics are going to get worse. California is grappling with a growing problem: too much solar

    2018 Tesla mode S 100D, Battery health percentage ?!

I think a new X100D was rated at 475km typical when new? If so that's ~7% degradation and perfectly normal. Like I said... until your battery fails, there's no claim to be made. Just trying to be realistic about your expectations. Tesla is not going to replace your battery.

[Help] Finding my 2015 Model S 70D for Insurance

Honestly that looks like a pretty typical spec for a 2015 car. Most of them were optioned out pretty nicely - not a lot of stripper models around from that era. What are they valuing the car at, and what leads you to believe it’s under market value? As for comps, have you looked through the...

    2018 Tesla mode S 100D, Battery health percentage ?!

Then the “dealer” was wrong. You don’t have much choice but to deal directly with Tesla as they’re the ones providing the warranty. For your car it’s pretty simple: Does the car show any alerts or error codes related to the battery? If yes, Tesla will evaluate them and determine if your...

Vehicle to PhotoVoltaic PV Inverter DC discharger available?

There is no off the shelf product that does what you’re describing. The Tesla charge port isn’t bidirectional so you’re gonna have to do some major modification to the HV system to get direct access to DC power from the pack. A whole lot of custom work just to steal some electricity from Tesla…

Model 3 Highland faster home charging

Not charging faster… exactly the same rate. The car just goes farther on the same amount of energy.

What battery cells are in the 2023 M3 LR?

I think it’s actually the opposite. The NMC chemistry is more stable, degrades less, and has better longevity at the expense of some energy density and max charge/discharge rate (similar to LFP).

Recommended TIre Vendors (Not a particular tIre)

While that's true and I generally agree, I'll also third the recommendation for Discount/America's. I've been to probably 10 of their locations at this point over the years and they've all been consistently excellent. Good corporate culture. 👍

Tesla wants to replace my Model Y Standard Range battery pack with an LFP pack

Nah, you’ve got the basic read of it. It’s like 95% dumb luck. “Babying” the battery might yield you like 3% less degradation over 7-10 years, but it isn’t gonna do much of anything to protect against outright failure of the pack. Supercharge early, supercharge often. Live on the edge, charge...

Optimal speeds for recapturing energy during descend and lowering consumption on ascend

If I can sum up your point: Duh. It’s not really related to the point I was making though - which is that regen is not perfect energy recapture and has a significant round trip loss. If you can avoid it via your driving style and conditions, that will always be more efficient. If you can’t...

Looking for current (as of April 2024) info on upgrading 2018 MS (MCU2 HW2.5 EAP, 2024.8.9) to HW3

I think anyone claiming any performance difference right now for basic autopilot functions between HW 2.5 and 3.0 is experiencing a major placebo effect. I don't think there's any reliable evidence whatsoever that the two behave differently in any measurable way. Pretty sure the radar is already...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]
