Supercharger means always having enough money left to get home...

...They locked up the pretty stuff in a big box. But here's crates to prove it's Tesla:

It's in the lot of a Target-anchored shopping center. Sonic is right there and some other restaurants such as a Mongolian grill.
It's well-lit and not prime (ICE) parking for anything.

Just "above" the Sonic in this map grab:

... You can always get a few miles on the HPWC at the Houston Galleria (Tesla Showroom location 24 hour access) or the Houston Service Center HPWC (Business hours) if you need it.
And I needed that booster shot at The Galleria to get back home this morning; a road-work detour ate up the scant 12-mile buffer I had.
Bless their hearts, they had left the 80A HPWC free (Roadster box and 14-50 were in use for demo cars). I was even able to get to the restroom in the mall by Nordstrom's, another blessing at 2AM :)

Lake Charles really will make HOU-NOLA trips painless, no multi-hour sipping of 30A at the Casino or the Clown Palace required.

See y'all at the LC ribbon-cutting! I doubt I'll be repeating this reconnaissance run without the SC on line.

LOL! But you da man for doing it this time. Did you end getting all the electrons you got in Lake Charles at the Mickey Ds?

Dis ole man got 18 and even 19 mph there so I stayed put at McDonald's. It was a bird-in-the-hand and though my curiosity wanted to add the L'Auberge badge to our nav map, it could have turned out to be in use.
Con: no entry to the restaurant after 11:00 or so.

156 RM was enough to get to Houston Galleria driving at 60-68. That's also where I topped off to a range charge about 14 hours earlier.

My Sister in law was able to get some pictures today of the Supercharger construction in Lake Charles. Moving along nicely!

Thank Sis for me. The only thing not to like about the pictures is that Sonic isn't installing carhop units at each stall.
One thought leads to another... The nearby restaurants could market (by QR Codes?) their menus to the captive audience of charge consumers, either to draw us into their dining room or even run a takeout meal to us.
Is this already happening at any SCs?

Looks like quite a bit of progress since you were there a week ago, no? Based on this I'm hopeful this will be operational by the time I need to make my trek to Houston second week of December.

Mike

If it's not, I'm picturing The Blues Brothers: Intense road action sequence, interrupted by a few hours of Level 2 charging while elevator music plays...

I have a strong urge to run out there again today and take snaps of progress. Anyone want to give odds on there being a Transformer in place yet?
I call Dibs on the L'Auberge Charger!

Yes! As far as I'm concerned that charger is all yours. If I go I'd have to take the truck (minimal miles on the Model S until trade in).

I don't think I can con my sister into taking anymore pictures...

If you do manage to talk her into more pictures, make sure that she knows the difference between a transformer and a distribution center, and get pictures of both if possible.

@SW2Fiddler: Have fun! Scouting trips can be a great adventure! If you fold down the back seats and throw in an old blanket, a bicycle fits very easily in the back of an MS. Consider tossing one in, pedaling the 1.5 miles over to the Supercharger Site, and charging while you scout.
