Any local owners seen any new activity? Hoping we see a B'ham SC by Fall.

I was hoping for a Supercharger in Birmingham by fall of last year.

Expect to be at Barber's Museum on September 19 for the next "tag day": 4 laps (escorted) around the track for those of us with Alabama Barber's license plates. The EVSE in the museum parking lot is a paltry 4.8 kW which is easy enough to burn 2 or 3 hours of that in the 4 mild laps. But it helps ease anxiety for return to Huntsville, 230 miles round trip.

We'll be driving from Minneapolis to Naples in January and were hoping to come through Birmingham to visit my family. I think we can make it there (though Nashville SC to B'ham may require a bit of self control) but charging once we get to B'ham to make it around town and then to the Auburn SC looks challenging. I'm thinking about maybe staying at the Hilton Perimeter and using the clipper creek charger in the Colonnade. Plugshare comments include a few where one side or the other isn't working which kind of concerns me. The new hotel in Mt Brook Village said they would have a charger and then said they wouldn't so not counting on them yet (and not a cheap place to stay).

Nissan dealer in Decatur, AL is very Tesla-friendly with their CHAdeMO (you need an adapter). Will take the suspense off the trip between Nashville and Birmingham. I don't know about the status of the Nissan dealer in Hoover.
Thanks, Decatur would be a good stopping point if we're pushing on making to B'ham.

Does anyone know who owns and maintains the charger at the Colonnade? Is it the Colonnade property manager? Should be able to rely on it? Thanks.

ET - no contacts at Colonnade but we have charged at Benton Nissan in Hoover before. It was probably a year ago the last time we charged so I'm not sure if there are any current concerns but you can call them to check.
If the 2015 SC map holds true, there should be a B'ham SC before January so hopefully you won't have to worry about it.

I live a couple miles from the Colonnade. Plugged in this morning, to ensure it worked. It does. There's a code on the side of the charger. It charged at 240V, 19A, about 19mi/hr.
Also, when I received my CHAdeMO adapter, I went to Benton Nissan in Hoover to try it out. They came over to look at the car, didn't have a problem with me plugging in, that was in February.
I've been from Birmingham up to Nashville a few times, stayed at the speed limit, did a range charge before leaving in both directions. This was before the Supercharger was available up there. From downtown Nashville, arrived back in Birmingham, close to the Colonnade, with about 12% charge.

Beginning to wonder if this SC will be operational this year. Looking at the "Today" map vs. the "2015" map on TM website, there are a LOT of SCs not even underway that are still on the "2015" map. With three months to go I'm not sure the current projections will be fully possible. This SC is badly needed for E-W travel to/from Atlanta and across the south. Hopefully we'll see it installed before next summer.

I am going to predict that Birmingham is coming in January. No, its not on Tesla's coming soon site, but it appears to me that Tesla has decided to build out at least the southern part of I81. While 81 doesn't actually continue thru to Birmingham, the diagonal line that 81 represents does continue, via I75 to Chattanooga then I59, to Birmingham. Then, on thru I20 to Texas (and I20 includes Jackson Ms, which is on the coming soon list).
Nothing more than my WAG ...

Hope you're right. January might be a little too aggressive since there aren't any signs of permit yet.

Anyone seen any signs of permit? January is obviously out but hoping this SC gets attention by Spring.

We were in B'ham for four days and nights last week. Stayed at the Hilton Perimeter (very poorly managed) and charged at the J1772 down the hill. Spent considerable time at The Summit, Mountain Brook, Crestline, and English villages, 5 Points, and elsewhere. Didn't see a single other EV. Not a single other Tesla, Leaf, i3, or other BEV. Saw one Volt. Valets at Chez Fonfon thought my P85D was a new Ford. No way they were parking it and they wouldn't let us self park so ended up several blocks away. Cancelled dinner at Highlands a couple of nights later.

Stayed at the Hyatt in Birmingham this weekend. I did a lot of running around and decided I needed to add a little bit of a charge to get back home without worrying about running the battery to low. Alabama Power has four charging stations at their headquarters building at 42 and 44Inverness Center Parkway. From their lot it is only a few hundred feet to a large shopping center with restaurants, Target, Best Buy and many more stores to visit while you wait. Since we were staying at the Hyatt my husband decided to leave the car for a longer charge so he just walked to the Hyatt. It is about a fifteen minute walk. It is a lovely area. We left the car there for a few hours while we attended our meeting then picked up the car with nearly a full charge.

The stations use a Charge Point Card or call if you don't have one call 888-758-4389. It did take two calls and several several minutes to get someone to answer on a Saturday afternoon, but it was free. It began charging very slow because ther was another car charging but it speeded up after they left.

Not or a Super Charger but nice to know about if you are traveling in this area. Oh yes the Purple Onion is a great place to eat in the shopping center.
