Strange VIN situation

I'm looking at a couple of Model Y Long Range inventory vehicles. I've run across a strange VIN configuration, wondering if anyone has an explanation.

First vehicle has the typical VIN 7SAYGDEE9PA187*** Sales associate says mfg. date is 11/7/23

Second vehicle has an X in the 9th position 7SAYGDEEXPA181*** . Most of the decoders I've seen say it should be a 9 in the 9th position. SA says mfg. date is 11/10/23.

Other than the 9th digit being different, the dates don't make sense. The first one built on 11/7 has a higher number 187 compared to the second one built on 11/10 of 181.

Can anyone explain this? Could they have re-used the second VIN for some reason?

Thanks.

The two cars are equipped the same with same color.

Thanks for your response.

In 2018 I ordered my model 3P. It was built on 11/15/2018 and I was picking up on 12/04. When I went to pick up, the car had so many issues with it even the delivery specialist suggested I reject it. The manager came out and told me that they had an inventory car with my spec they could swap me to. That car was built on 11/18/2018.

The first car had a vin that was later in sequence than the second one, even though the second one was built later.

TL ; DR My own car purchase had a similar situation. The vins are not allocated sequentially in Tesla (although close to it, they assign them in batches). I wouldnt worry about it, especially if you have the born on date.
