They could have a whole 1.5 drivetrain churning away at redline on a dyno or test jig without the rest of the car to prove some of what they need.

They could also put the entire car on the dyno, plug it in and switch off the "powerlock during charging". The car would effectively be run directly from the grid and could go through various driving profiles repetitively and continously. Such a test would give very repetable and comparable results - much more than driving it on the open roads where conditions change all the time.

This off course would completely bypass the ESS. But they've said the demands on ESS are not changed.
