Some interesting early history comments on the shareholder call today.

Today wasn't a "call", it was the annual shareholder's meeting. Elon spent a remarkable amount of time talking about the early history of Tesla, but I think his objective was to clearly refute various inaccuracies that have been propagated by sloppy journalists and Tesla FUDsters.

That's my impression too. From what I've read, AC Propulsion connected Elon & JB to Marc & Martin. Marc & Martin founded Tesla Motors, and Elon & JB wanted to found their own EV company. So in this case, it's a subtle difference in perspective. As far as Elon was concerned, he wanted to start an EV company before hearing of Marc & Martin and Tesla:
