A slightly left field suggestion for those doing shorter trips - I recently started using Zilch in Auckland and Christchurch for work. They have a range of EVs available but so far I keep getting assigned the BMW i3.
Cost is per hour but they do provide the option of full day hires. For me the hourly use works out better because I don't need to organise parking during the day or overnight, just pay as i use.
