I think it makes sense for the P version to only come in AWD since AWD is not just for snow. It really does improve performance (acceleration and handling) over RWD. A true performance car should have AWD.

Kudo's to Tesla's Operations Manager for biting the bullet and relieving production line complexity. Three different seating choices was crazy. Pruning the color chart may help the paint center's efficiency, larger batches and fewer color changes / cleanouts. The 60 appears to not be the most common battery size ordered so the S60 is the current "economy" S. All in all, I hope these few constraints will help with meeting production numbers in future quarters.
I just wish for one thing, a darker brown leather seating option. Saddle leather perhaps. And maybe Frunk and Trunk Lights.

There is too big a gap between the S85D at 5.2 seconds and the P85D at 3.2 seconds. The P85 bridged that gap nicely at 4.2 seconds. The jump from S85D to P85D now costs $8,000 more than the previous jump from non-performance to performance (over $18,000 versus $10,000). If you want a performance RWD car, your only option is a used P85 or P85+. Not everyone needs or wants AWD.
Inside Sales just called. I have the following options:
1) Remove AWD and get the car in December in Green.
2) Change from an 85D to a P85D, get the car in December in green.
3) Choose another color.
Not happy.
Not happy.

Early in Feb, I was told, as I was one of the earliest 85Ds confirmed apparently.
Is there? How much nuance is needed between "faster than you need" and "balls out"?
If you really love green and have the means, go for the P85D. You'll have a very unique car. Maybe tesla will give you a small discount?
Why would I want to give Tesla $20k more in response to them trying to get out of the agreement to deliver the car I ordered? That's just sending entirely the wrong message to them.
I know it isn't the same, but have you green brothers considered getting the car wrapped? There might be a shade of green wrap you really like. And remember, the wrap is usually a paint protection, so when removed, the paint could be like new years from now. You could go with a base black paint job to save the Tesla upcharge for the colors.
It looks like you could have taken option 1 (keep the car you ordered for delivery in December in green) at no change in cost.
However, you wanted to change your order so you have to follow the new rules. They could have just said "You can't change your order".
The $750 cost for the paint color isn't even close to the cost of a good color wrap. So getting black and then wrapping isn't a cost savings.
I was not saying a wrap would be cheaper. I fully know the cost of a full wrap having done it. But you could save the cost of the upgraded paint IF you ordered a basic paint color knowing you were going to wrap it in green.
My next car, if it is a Model X or Model SD, I will mostly likely decide before I configure it if or if not I will wrap the car. And if I do plan to wrap it, I might go with a basic paint color this time to save some money. That of course will be decided after I see the Model X and the different paint options.
