What about for the blind? I know its silly to make exceptions, but what is the argument to that?

Annoyingly this is coming.... (I like the near silence)...
However the European Commission has already mandated it within the next 5 years.... and other countries are following it seems...
I am sometimes worry EV too quite that pedestrians and people riding bicycle can't hear the car is coming.
If Tesla finally doesn't provide this option, I would like to make this for Model X. Anyone want to develop this product together?
I'm sorry this is a completely stupid Idea. It's like putting a Horse manure smell device on a gas car so it will more closely resemble it's more primitive version.
I currently have over 30k miles on a Nissan Leaf and the hitting blind people & people riding bikes is a complete non-Issue.
By law (& by common sense) it's the drivers responsibility not to hit people. If someone walks out in front of you just tap the horn. If they ever try to mandate sound on EVs they also should put sound on luxury ICE cars that are almost silent at low speeds. If you like the silly speakers you can always go buy a Fisker Karma.
If you make this I'll laugh at you.
"Speakers on cars are unnecessary noise pollution" -Elon Musk
BTW, the US also already mandated noisemakers in EVs. it's being phased in, with the first phase less than 3 months away (September 2014) with full implementation in all EVs by 2018.
so far that legislature has not been challenged and is fully scheduled to go in effect.
this does not seem to work for me? deaf & dumb people here. on their cell phones! That is sad, I have never had a problem and always slow down until they hear me and as you get closer they can hear the tire noise. ...
I know I'v posted this quite a few times but it does work pretty well. + confused people a little bit
Princess BonnieI thought we were going with "PT?"
Deaf people cannot hear anything and if you are walking and on your cell phone and not paying attention why do we have to pollute with more noise.I know I'v posted this quite a few times but it does work pretty well. + confused people a little bit
still haven't gone wireless with it yet or made a new hammer. maybe someday

I was just shopping at the local grocery store and as I walked outside I thought about this thread. Three cars were moving to the left and two to the right and there were a couple more waiting to get into the main traffic lane. I was just thinking if all these cars were EV and were all beeping or making some other noise how annoying it would be. I can see future laws being written to ban the noise makers because of the disturbances it causes in a parking lot.
January, 2018 - "STFU Incorporated" was formed to provide the aftermarket service of removing this ridiculous requirement from registered vehicles in the Fremont, CA area. The company is non-profit but accepts tips and anecdotes as an informal form of payment. They are considering expanding to other locations in the near future. In addition, the carmakers requested the NHTSA to make the new sound system required by 2018 instead of 2014.[/I]
