I fall into this category. The credit union was hesitant to give me money. Not because I don't have good credit or debt to income, but because I've never financed over $30k for a vehicle.Supposedly the paint isn't as...robust, primarily due to manufacturing limitations in California (environmental reasons). Also the front end being somewhat flat seems to make it a magnet for rock chips.
Also, it seems like for the average Tesla buyer, this is their first "luxury" car purchase over 50k, so they're more mindful of protecting the fit and finish.
I can justify another $5k for ppf on a $60k+ vehicle where I never would have for a $30k vehicle.
I'm also OCD, so rock chips and scratches cause me emotional pain. It would be especially bad on a $60k+ vehicle.
