So this is old but never seems to die: Matt Mikka on his Warped Perception channel builds a hybrid Tesla that charges while driven. First on a gas generator. Second on a diesel. A rotary is supposedly in the works.

It does seem like that his car can recharge when parked. What is heavily disputed is whether the car really charges while driving.

I don’t think this is impossible: since Teslas can regen and put energy back into the battery while driving, it seems like previous versions of the firmware might allow some crafty hacking to slip a generator stream into the battery disguised as regenerated energy. I just don’t think it’s being done here. Or anywhere.

Thoughts?

Yeah, that would be cool for the CT, get a fuel cell generator and wire it into the battery, fill the hydrogen tanks and off you go, much lighter than the Range Extender would be, and you only activate it if needed, and you have Superchargers to get you to the next hydrogen station as they are VERY sparsely distributed.

Would make it a much better tow vehicle. Do wonder how the NAV would be able to plan based on the running of the generator while traveling.
