Let's say thanks: Pizza for the factory employees

So things to keep in mind ... Jerome is VP of Worldwide Sales & Service. Gilbert Passin is VP of Manufacturing. If you are contacting a VP about this, it's Gilbert's floor, not Jerome's. (Though Jerome will forward the request to the right people, undoubtedly.)

In the past, the marketing dept has coordinated both internal and external events. They probably would be the right group to reach out to.

And lastly ... please don't forget YOUR sales person and delivery specialist. They have taken a huge amount of abuse from untold people (and I'm not talking about people here, just in general). Rewarding the factory and leaving out the people who have had to take the brunt of customer frustration would seem unfair.

After two years, my sales person and delivery specialist (and many others who were over the top extraordinary) have moved on, up, and out. But The Tradition continues, and I am willing to support it on general Tesla Principles.

Someone can create a spreadsheet and get a budget. Know some good pizza places around and can negotiate a discount. Last step would be to PayPal into an account. This will be tallied in the spreadsheet. Anonymous contributions welcome. Will make sure budget is fully spent. Use friends and family option it's free upto $500 per sender per month. Sounds like a plan ? Picking up my car @12:30 let me know if I need to ask anything around logistics, shifts etc.

I think andrew is working logistics, etc. with Tesla already. If you've let him know you can be one of the people heading over whether this Saturday or next, great! (Will probably be there, also.) Make sure you pm him, so he can let you know directly what help is needed ...

Ok, here is the deal. I apologize for not sharing the details sooner, but I was trying to nail down the logistics with Tesla.

Tesla loved the idea but thought the logistics of us trying to arrange for pizza for 4k employees over three shifts was not going to work. Instead, Tesla is going to handle the planning as well as pick up the tab.

What they have asked from us is two things:

1. A letter of appreciation that can be shared with the troops.

2. A SMALL number of customers to come to the factory to represent us. You'll probably do a bit of meet and greet, etc.

Tesla is tentatively thinking this Saturday or the next. I'm still waiting to hear back from the person Jerome asked me to coordinate with.

If you live local to the factory, and are willing to represent us this Saturday and/or the next (20th or 27th) please let me know.

As to the money that people have offered, since it's no longer needed to pay for the pizza, I suggest a few options:

1/ We pick a charity and make donations in the name of the tesla employees. We can share at the event the nature of our donation in their name. This has an advantage of being easy to do in our timeframe, and imho is in the spirit of the holiday. Everyone here is very lucky to be able to afford a model S. I like the message this sends.

2/ Order a banner that can be displayed in the factory. While it would be great to have this for the event, I don't know if it's practical even in a week?

3/ I could ask Tesla about sending something else, perhaps prepackaged cookies/popcorn etc. that wouldn't be as logistically challenging.

4/ Do nothing additional. Jerome was touched by our gesture, and thought the letter and having a few folks come and speak would be meaningful.

Given the time constraints and Tesla's offer, I think number one or four is best. I am willing to own writing the first draft of a letter, but it would be useful to me to have a discussion on the points we wish to make. Off the top of my head:

1/ Their work is moving our planet away from energy sources that are harmful to our environment and in limited supply

2/ more immediate- their commitment to the company and extra hours enabled tesla to deliver our cars before the holiday; special present?

3/ Share how much we love our cars. Perhaps give them some color of how insane we are, tracking every move, etc.

Please, discuss...

Hey, if you guys are in there anyway, could you check what happened to VIN#63012? Red, tan interior P85D. It will probably be the one that's been sitting in the far corner of the inspection area for a really long time, 40% dismantled and now being used as a spot to pile the empty pizza boxes. :)

Kidding aside, very classy way for Tesla to handle this. Although I am sortof serious. I would like to know what happened to my car. Maybe get a photo?

Photos aren't allowed inside the factory, and I doubt the event will happen anywhere near the line. Let's move over to the blackhole thread.

Excellent work, Andrew! Well done!

I think a donation and a banner to arrive whenever, so that there is some sort of a lasting memento, would be appropriate.

As for the donation, how about this:

You ask Jerome for a contact in personnel to identify one or two Tesla employees who have had some particular hardship of late, and who would really benefit from the money we'll be sending. They may form a small committee of a few managers or something to pick the right person or people, but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a worker or two in the Tesla plant for whom a few thousand dollars might make a real difference. We then just donate the money directly to that person or those people.

And I think that gesture will be remembered and felt by all the workers at Tesla more than a contribution to a somewhat nameless, faceless charity would be. Because whomever it is that winds up receiving the money, it will be one (or more) of them. It's more personal.

Also, Andrew, I'd like to offer to be a second set of eyes to help proof-read your letter. I can even help edit it a bit, if you like.
