Idea on how Tesla Motors can get around state bans

TexasEV wrote, "If the dealer franchise law changed so Tesla could get a dealer license..."

Precisely. "If"... Currently Texas laws require that new car dealerships be independent from manufacturers who subscribe to the franchise laws. So far no dealerships are approved for ownership in the state by automobile manufacturers.

By the way... I wasn't quoting a document, so much as phrasing the term 'independent franchised dealerships'. I pretty much always write it the same way, because I find the term laughable. For me, it is a continuing joke.

bollar: Oops. Thanks for the correction.

I tried to give them the following idea a few months ago:

set up up dealership and service centers in coop structures that are legally distinct owned by the buyers. Make it profit neutral to Tesla.

Return any profits to the coop members via distributions.
Proportion can be by revenue of each buyer. (Which is what REI does)

meets the the letter of the law and no doubt the spirit.
