my girl friend model Y had road debris hit the passenger side wheel well followed by errors such as coolant leak. SC looked at and reported full HV battery replacement. Pls look at the image. It looks damaged but can this be still functional?

If there is damage to the HV battery, especially coolant lines, the SC will not repair. Standard procedure is to replace the HV battery.

Your options are to file an insurance claim or find a third party willing/able to help… though this may void your HV battery warranty. Probably already is in question since the SC knows you have suffered damage.

Well, they are already voiding his battery warranty, so he has nothing to loose going to a third party for a fix.
Unless they are actually offering him a replacement battery for just a fraction of the price of the new one as the current one can be refurbished.

Believe this a daytime robbery by Tesla. Not many know how easily those coolant tube gets damaged.
happens with all teslas. and the M3/MY have aftermarket underbody aluminum “aeroshields” available. One front, one rear, supposedly provides more coverage and protection. And if you search on TMC, you’ll find posts about damaged coolant lines.

Rough guess, Tesla quoted you ~$20k for a new hv pack… insurance may be the best option if you can’t find a shop to fix the coolant line.

This is one of the things car insurance is for, so I have zero idea why the OP would be looking at doing this out of pocket.

Well, even if it is covered by the insurance, it is stupidity to waste 20 k $ of battery worth, if a fix can be made for less than 1 k $ retail.
The same logic would be to replace the whole car due to some stone chip damage.
Tesla needs a long term policy change for the many of the repairs or it will severly hit its long term prospects of car sales.
While the Tesla EV hype was at its full, no one cared for such extreme servicing/maintenance/ownership anomalies.
Now people start caring again and they pass buying a Tesla.

Only if that fix is less than your deductible. Otherwise, using insurance in this instance is actually one of the times a person "wins" having insurance. The vast majority of the time, you pay, and get nothing but "peace of mind". its absolutely absurd to consider not using insurance and paying 20k out of pocket if you have insurance and this was caused by a road hazard.

If that was a covered insurance situation, sure.
