I can edit Wiki time to time - my source is CSDD (Road Traffic Safety Directorate) which is also Reg.Office. I never saw any monthly info in media or anywhere online, so I found someone from office to put me in mailing list just for new EV registrations. This is where I get monthly data.

Uk q1 2015

As we got a Q1 2015 total number for the UK only, I divided it for the 3 months - Feb was limited by a total of 34 foreign imports, so I kept the old estimate of 30 there, and divided the rest of the total for Jan and Mar.

TMS, indeed Google sheets could be an alternative to the current table. One advantage is that, you don't need to calculate the totals. Another advantage is, you can add graphs. In this forum it is possible to embed Google sheets and graphs from the same sheet. I will do both to see how this will work.

Initially I created a second page on your sheet with a smaller table and I created two graphs but then I deleted those and created a new file because I wanted to test embedding but it requires changing a setting in the document which I don't have access to change (publish setting in file menu).

To test the embed, I created a new section that appears like a new article below the main wiki article. It has its own edit button. We can have both for a while to see how the Google embed works. Hobbes, do you mind having both for a while to test the Google sheets idea? You can then decide what to do.

Here is some information that might be useful to others:

1. The BBcode to embed Google sheets is explained here. This will only work if the sheet is published to the web. (Open Google sheet > File > Publish to Web > Publish)
2. Besides the main data table, it is also possible to embed individual graphs from a Google sheet to a wiki or regular forum message. To do that, on the Google sheet click on a chart (graph) > Click on the down arrow on top corner of that chart > publish chart > change from interactive to image > copy embed code and close window > On TMC while editing a wiki or a regular forum message > click insert image button > from URL > paste code > uncheck "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" > OK.

Didn´t see the discussion here until just now and the new google table until yesterday. Was kind of surprised nobody said anything about the change... But nice work, Troy and TMS, I think that´s the way to go and thanks for the documentation, too.

Had posted this to the EU thread instead:

I just now saw the google sheet Troy included with the wiki. I have been thinking about that for a while, too, because it is really annoying to constantly check the totals and google can do that automatically. Also the plots are great.

Did you copy the data from the wiki table there, so is it identical? While I like the google sheet, I do not like having two tables in parallel at all. Most people will not be updating both tables and we are going to end up in a mess. So I would be for finalizing the google approach and throwing the other table out as soon as we are sure everything works. Does the google sheet thing have an automatic history so we can see who changed what? Guess I have to play with it a bit.

What does everyone else think?

I don´t want to keep both tables running in parallel when new numbers come in (just a few days), otherwise I expect a mess. So I am thinking about moving to the google solution completely soon. What is missing from my point of view:

- We are missing the sources, very important IMHO. I was thinking about turning each number into a link to its source before so we don´t have to add extra content which makes things crowded, will be some work but worth it.
- Differentiate between estimates and hard numbers: Looks like we can keep the color coding but the total can not be split between the two. Can live with that, the other advantages are more important.
- I think it is too easy to change the table by accident (you don´t even have to click a submit button). Maybe we could create a form to add monthly numbers and just put a link to that for everyone to report - maybe then we could also automate adding a change log entry which many forget to do as it is now? Form should have the country, month (previous=default), number and source.
- Don´t like the layout so much with YTD and Q totals on the left (but your changelog entry says it is necessary to enable one of the graphs?!)

Hi Hobbes and others,

We are missing the sources, very important IMHO.
I copied over the hyperlinks for Norway. Hyperlinks for other countries need to be added. Adding a hyperlink to a number in Google sheets turns the number into text and formulas stop working. For example =SUM(H3:J3) doesn't add the hyperlinked number anymore. I found a solution. The solution is to replace =SUM(H3:J3) with =ArrayFormula(SUM(Value(H3:J3))) Then it works correctly again.

Did you copy the data from the wiki table there, so is it identical?
Yes, I copied from here. Yes, it is identical. Q1 is 3502, Q2 is 3987, July is 1182, Aug is 1126 on both tables.

Does the google sheet thing have an automatic history so we can see who changed what?
Not exactly but it has something more basic. On top menu click "tools > notification rules" and you can sign up for emails each time somebody makes a change. The user's Google nickname is included in the email. In the email if you click the link (there is only 1 link) it will open an uneditable instance of the sheet with cells highlighted that were edited. This is not perfect and not easy to use but from my experience with working on other shared document, I would say it is OK for this type of document where there are limited number of changes. It is also possible to restore documents to previous versions.

Don´t like the layout so much with YTD and Q totals on the left (but your changelog entry says it is necessary to enable one of the graphs?!
Fixed.

You need to decide if/when you are happy with the google sheet idea to make the switch.
