Discussion: All Season Vs Summer Tires

Others want to save $$$ - that’s cool, and understandable as they’ve already decided what’s most important to them when making that choice.

This comes off as very condescending.

Especially from someone who decided to save $$$ when he took his car to the racetrack on street tires...

The one place where you can really find the limits without going to jail, hitting curbs, being an asshole, and with usually an ambulance there, just-in-case.

But yeah, go get it street racer!!!

All the engine power, suspension tuning and brakes in the world can’t show their best without tires that allow the car to perform its best.

Except in street use you virtually never (legally anyway) reach the limits of even good all seasons.

Unless you drive like a drunk teenager you're going to panic brake on average 0 times a year because you're not tailgating people like an idiot... (and if you DO drive that way- or on the rare occasion some OTHER idiot cuts you off badly or something- as already shown to you, all seasons stop shorter in wet conditions-- by a larger margin than summer tires do in dry ones.)

Unless you drive like a drunk teenager you're never going to corner in street use in excess of the limits of EITHER type of tire if using a good example of the class of tire in either class so the fact one can do a 2% quicker lap time on a track at 3 digit speeds makes no difference at all on the street.

Honestly you sound like the dudes who spend thousands of dollars slapping BBKs on their street vehicles then telling us how you're sure the car stops a lot shorter (it does not of course- that's not how physics works-- if the stock brakes can engage ABS- which they can, then MOAR BRAKES does literally nothing to reduce stopping distance.). In the exact same way, in street use since you're not exceeding the grip of good UHP all seasons, MOAR TIRE gets you literally nothing except higher costs because they wear out much more often.... plus the added danger if it ever gets cold where you live.

On the TRACK however, a dedicated track tire WILL make a notiable improvement for both of these things over street summer tires.

So again, the only person compromising performance in this discussion is you.... by your insistence on using measurably inferior summer street tires at the track. You want to save $$$ - that’s cool, and understandable as you’ve already decided what’s most important to you when making that choice.

In contrast those using UHP all seasons in normal street use are stopping and cornering just as well as any adult legal driver on UHP summers--- AND they're getting 2-3x the service life AND peace of mine when the temps drop as cherries on top.

When replacing tires on any of our vehicles, I’ve tried to buy better-performing tires than what’s being replaced.

You've also stated UHP summers are the best choice (despite your claim they win at every measurable test being debunked as false)

You've also stated you put all seasons on your wifes vehicle.

Those can't ALL be true.
