Cupholder in Tesla Roadster?

I purchased this *pricey* cupholder several months ago and use it daily. I placed it in the existing cupholder, so it's always open and available. It's much sturdier this way & much more useful: I can drop change in it, I don't need to maneuver a drink into it, etc. Recommend.

I have this as well and added a ring of electrical tape around the rim so that the edge won't cut into my seat. Works very well.

I'm thinking about getting this:

That should do the trick, I guess... I just need to find a place in the center console where I can mount this onto.

This is the one I have used for about three years. I do close it when my wife gets into the passengers seat cause she puts her foot close to that location to get in the car. I'll send pics asap

Need to wait until tomorrow for pics..... Too dark in garage for good pic

Okay, thanks for the pics. I see you mounted it over top of the OEM cup holder. Unfortunately my passenger doesn't like cups poking her in the leg.

What I want is a fold-away cup holder that sits on top of the door sills. Fold it away so you can get in the car, fold it out for holding the drink. Once you're inside the car the door sill area serves no function (other than car structure!).

Right..... Yea this wouldn't work unless you stuck it to your door....:scared:

That's the same cupholder I posted upthread. Agree, it's a good solution. I don't feel like I'm constantly stressing the nonsubstantial Roadster cupholder, and it's always available. I just drop stuff in.

I had that iPhone mount, but it kept getting in the way. I swapped over to the magnetic one from Abstract Ocean (a forum sponsor, btw) and love it. My phone swivels, I can pick it up easily and replace without looking, etc. I bought a second mount so I could put a receiving end in my Jeep.

You do have to mount a magnetic back to your phone, but it's come in really handy. Anywhere there is a metal surface, I can park my phone. For instance in the kitchen, I just stick my phone on the microwave, off the countertop. Since I have a phone case that I love, I just modified it with an exacto knife to allow me to attach the magnet directly to the phone glass back & am happy with the result.

fyi, the receiving end can be repositioned - extra material for attaching is included. Optimally, it would have been more over to the right (on the dash), but then the passenger airbag could propel it into a passenger during an accident, so I nixed that idea. I'm happy with the current position.

Just to show possible variations for phone mounting, I provide a photo of my solution. In 2009 I designed an aluminum bracket that fits into a slot in the upper surface of the Roadster 1.5 storage tray and is held in place by spring compression. It accepts a ProClip mount to hold the desired mobile device. I had some 20 of them made and sold to other owners. This photo shows a white cable extending the JVC's iPod dock for clarity, but I use it with a black cable to be less obvious. It has served me well for five years. This design avoids cramping the passenger's knee and puts the phone a little closer to fit my reach while still leaving the controls underneath visible and accessible from the driver's position. It would provide a good surface for the magnetic mount that Bonnie mentioned as an alternative. CAD files available for anyone who wants to replicate this.

slcasner- Are you still making these clips for the roadster 1.5?
