Canadian Insurance

When we moved from Toronto to Cobourg the annual insurance for 3 cars dropped about 40%. Just with the postal code change.
As an aside Aviva is comprised of 5 different insurers. One is Traders General. I insure through Aviva Traders through a large group plan provided by my former employer. I have had nothing but first class experiences with them through a basement flood claim and a car flood claim. No problems here.

I got soft delivery date for next week. When I gave the VIN to the Personal insurance. They told me that my model S is not equipped with authorised immobiliser, and my deductible would be at least $5000. My previous Nissan Leaf had $500 deductible. Also their rates were $25/mth. higher than what I was quoted before ordering the car.

Only possibility I can think of is as the car is not yet in Canada, so they don't have access to exact details. I will try again after getting the delivery.

i went shopping for insurance about 5 days after i received my VIN ... gave my insurance company (RBC) the VIN and they got all the information they needed ... will be paying $23 more a year then I am currently when the car arrives in the next couple of weeks

Try RBC, always had good rates with them

I am now scared about the immobilizer fiasco. DS said that they will not testify that the car is Canadian compliant. The insurance company is standing by their wording, that my car is not insurable. Unless this issue gets sorted out, I will not take the delivery.

Well, if the DS will not attest to the fact that the car is legal in Canada, I'm not sure I'd accept delivery either.

If it's any consolation, I'm also with the personal and they didn't give me any issues. It's possible there was a clerical error and hopefully Tesla can get it resolved, otherwise don't accept delivery

I fired a email to my sales, DS and Insurance. Nobody from tesla replied. Insurance company promptly confirmed that VCC immobilizer in my car is not approved and may be issue in future. So now Tesla got to resolve it.
Damn, so much wait, and preparation and finally hit the wall.

that sucks, such a long wait for the car to finally be delivered and now this. I wonder if this is the case with how your car was built or something is up with all of our Canadian cars. As mentioned before, I didn't have any issues when shopping for insurance and provided my VIN.

For future purchasers, I would suggest everyone to get a quick quote as soon as they receive their VIN from their insurance company so that you don't have to go through this and may be able to correct the issue long before delivery day.

I think your DS is same as mine ... anytime i Email him he usually gets back to me in about 2 days ... but sending email to NASales should help.

Also, try contacting this person over at Yorkdale Tesla, he has reached out to me regarding my delivery dates but again most likely wont reply for a day or two.
