According to the KPMG’s Autonomous Vehicles Readiness Index, Canada dropped five places in countries’ ranking of ability to adopt self-driving vehicles en masse.

There are some things we can’t really influence. Our large size and limited G4 cellular coverage makes it difficult to implement autonomous vehicles everywhere.

But Canada really needs to get our act together in promoting acceptance of the technology that is available such as Tesla’s FSD. It seems that we are hampering ourselves in the locations where autonomous vehicles are possible.

There is an opportunity here to be exploited. “If it ends up a huge global business, then being at the front of the queue in exporting to the rest of the marketplace – in terms of capabilities, innovation and infrastructure – is absolutely [a top priority]," says KPMG’s Colin Earp, national transport lead for Canada.
