A motorcyclist sued Cruise and Cruise settled while still claiming that it was the motorcyclist's fault:

I'm not aware of any incident actually going to court.

Didn’t read the article (if this is covered): do these get reported to authorities and investigated? Seems like that is where facts would be established?

They report all collisions to the DMV (though 2017 collisions appear to no longer be available...). There are often police reports filed but I haven't seen any investigations (except of course for the fatal Uber collision where there was a very extensive investigation).
