Automatic Emergency braking disabled until next drive cycle

So when I try to enable automatic emergency braking I see the following message
'the vehicle will not automatically apply the brakes even when a collision is detected this setting will reset for the next drive cycle'

How long is a drive cycle? My car seems to have come with it disabled and my only options to select from are cancel and disable

You don't have to enable it, it is always enabled unless you disable it for a single drive.
