Yes, the justice system in the USA is highly punitive, so your point of view is common where you post from.

The only thing is that the statistics do not support the claim that tougher punishment reduces crime.

Are you a parent?

You raise the level of punishment until compliance is achieved.

Verbal reminders of the consequences of recidivism and the capability combined with willingness to swiftly administer punishment makes behavioral correction a breeze. I’ve counted to 3 one time and one time only for my 7 year old.

What’s the rate of vandalism in Singapore? Not that much...

Vandalism is covered under comprehensive (at least in MA) along with all non collision damage e.g. hail, fire, theft, animal.

Yes... That's the case everywhere.

The Tesla owner's insurance will pay for the part of the repair cost that is above his or her deductible.

Folks were asking whether the vandal's car insurance would pay for this. The answer to that is no.

The Tesla owner (or his/her insurance) could go after the vandal personally to pay the deductible (and reimburse the insurance for the part they paid), but that's unlikely to be possible unless the woman really was arrested and identified. And even if the Tesla owner does know who she is, collecting from her is unlikely to be cost effective.

Bottom line, unless she actually was arrested, and as part of the criminal justice process she has to make restitution to the Tesla owner, it's likely that the Tesla owner will pay his comprehensive deducible and the Tesla's insurance will pay the rest.

This is so sad. It shows the stark reality of those who hate. We can no longer presume those scratches were accidents.
