Absurd registration policy for self-registration state

So I took delivery for the car last weekend. Afterward, I got the email from the delivery team saying that I should not drive the car until the registration packet is arrived. I should have done better research and not taken home delivery from TX service centers, but from other states like KS. That's way I could still be able to drive with a temporary tag.

Fast forward today, I just got impatiently and contacted the service center to ask about the registration status. They implied that the registration packet is already completed. However, due to not test driving the car and living in OK, they are not going to send the packet until the 7 days return period have been passed, which means it will only be sent by the 14th of this month. I told him that is ridiculous since I had to pay everything (loan, down payment, trade-in) before taking delivery to get it ship from Phoenix to Dallas and then delivery to my address. Basically I pretty much committed to buy the car and will not return it back.

They said this policy is a workaround for state that does not allow direct sale from Tesla, which I think it is a lot crap. My state does not allow Tesla to sale directly, but not like they prevent Tesla prevents to fast track registration and especially it is coming from CA DMV and not my state. At the end of the call, the person on the phone said he would try to have it expedited if somehow they know I am not going to return the car to them. Not so sure now if they would do anything to have it send early or just wait until next week and send it out.

It’s not easy to buy a Tesla in your situation. I applaud your tenacity in doing so. I hope you don’t need to have a lot of service on the car. That is a long way to drive for something minor.
Yeah I did a lot of research on that and wasn't going to buy the car until recently and thought about the tax rebate and the whole service situation as well. They delivered a few cars in my state when I did the delivery so not like I am alone. My previous car model was an all new redesigned and I saw a lot of minor problems as well as recalls that I had to visit the dealership so frequently, so hopefully this Model 3 will serve me well and not need to worry about those major services.

The delivered the car without a temporary tag on it? I'd call them tomorrow and give them until Friday at noon to either get a temporary tag into your possession or to take the car back and you can order another car when they figure out their process. What's the point of a 1 week return policy if you can't legally drive the car on the road during that period?

I even got the generic Tesla delivery welcome letter that stated that I should not drive since it does not have temporary tag and paperwork. "Your vehicle will not have temporary tags or registration during this time and you should not drive the vehicle". That is the actual statement and with a yellow highlight in the email.

They are still processing my trade-in so if I return and reorder new one from different state, then that will take even longer time, and who know if they will include it with the purchase from a different state then TX. I heard different stories about the paperwork and temp tag but they probably changed it in order to not being fined by the state since they are not an actual dealership.

Going to call and annoy them more since after delivery, my delivery specialist and sale advisor went awol. Send them few email and have not heard back from either guy. Also, it's kind of suck that they don't even have an option when calling to ask regarding about post-delivery like paperwork or trade-in so you will have to jump hoop from hoop in hope to meet one customer service guy that knows stuff.

Updated: Called the actual customer service number and somehow got the delivery specialist guy on the phone. He was surprised that the registration has not been sent yet and he said he will check and contact me later with the tracking information and overnight shipping. Tesla need to get their team together on the same sheet of paper. One guy said one thing and another guy told me entirely different.

May I ask you what happened with this? I live in Vermont and my Model 3 was delivered on June 4th. Vermont doesn't prevent Tesla sales but I'm nearly four hours from the Tesla store in Dedham, MA so they deliver. This is the third day I've waited for a tracking number so, already, there's not much left of the seven day "trial" period.
