85kWh battery being phased out?

They do indeed show the 85 unavailable in Canada, at least today as I look at it.

Not sure I understand the logic. A 90 capped to 85 will give you less degradation over time than an 85. Nothing wrong with the 90 cells.

Im not a fan of the new chemistry. The 90 kWh supercharges more slowly than my 85. I would not trade up to a 90 even if it were free.

Like Green1, I am not surprised. The 90s having slightly different cells, so I simply suspected they were exhausting their supply/orders of the old cells and then would drop the 85s.

Wait so does this mean they will lower the price of the 90D? In the US Configurator, it is a $3K additional cost. If Tesla doesn't offer the ability to get the 85KW version then I suspect going forward the Tesla will be $3K cheaper?

Can you post the link to where it charges more slowly? I am surprised but have not research this in detail. I always assumed that the higher capacity will allow it to charge faster. A link would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Humm i am curious to see other 90D data point to verify. But it can make sense. The new chemistry might have more capacity but the trade off is slower charging rate. We will have to see. I hope this is not going to be the trend once 150Kw or higher charging standard comes out i dont want to be limited my my battery.

I thought the 85 would be phased out, as well as 2WD phased out... I don't know much about making things, but it seems logical that making two things (batteries) is easier than making 3 things.

85kwh Discontinued

Just saw the 85 kwh battery was discontinued. I have an 85D ordered already. How will this affect it - it is scheduled for production. Will I get the 90 or get one of the last 85's? If the latter, I am going to feel like I'm getting screwed. (unless they raised the price by 3k).

There are several other threads already on this. You will get the 85, but if you call now, they may upgrade you to the 90. It will cost you the extra $3,000 though.

I'm not sure if I get their business model. Wouldn't this have been a good opportunity to get those on the fence? Something to the effect of: "The 85s are being phased out effective 2/8/16. Preorder now to lock in your price".
