Yes if we solve how to open the contacts then wallah we can try the reset I'd be amazed if Tesla put anything a customer can use that would damage the car as in the UK you have to have to right to repair/diagnose soo this service section will be a way to perform basic tests and resets anything major will still be a SC visit
 
Fireman's Loop? Care to explain
The Fireman's Loop is a cable on the car that a fireman can cut to instantly cut off power from the high voltage pack. If you aren't in a rush the connector can disconnected and then later reconnected. (Tesla's official first responders guide here: link)

This whole video is pretty informative, but around the 6 minute video mark in the video gets directly to the details of the Fireman's Loop:

As said above, disconnect the fireman's loop will open the contactors.
Contactors close when you unlock the car (and to charge the 12v etc).
Fireman's loop is part of the high voltage interlock which is used to check HV components aren't comprised by using resistance (each HV component has a resistor along the line)
You can hear them close and open in the model s, two clicks.
 
Would close the contactors mean power on? If so, I wonder if it is just tap the brake with the door closed and butt in the seat?
If not, dunno.
Open contactors = HV disconnected from car.
Closed = connected.

Sitting in drivers seat and pressing the brake will close the contactors (they usually close before this, in the model S usually on unlocking).
