2013 Model S - DU Replacement, twice within 3 years.

The RDU for my 2013 Model S was replaced back in October 2020. Since it was still within 8 year warranty, there was no cost involved.

The replaced RDU likely failed again a week ago and I have received a quote of 6k to replace it.

Wondering if the replaced RDU should have come with some warranty as well (been less than 3 years and 30,000 miles) or since the 8 years have passed (since 2013 build), every RDU replacement will cost me 100%.

Look at the warranty agreement. Parts replaced under warranty are covered for the remainder for the original warranty.

Parts which are paid for by the customer do carry their own warranty. My understanding from the latest documents is that a replacement drive unit or battery would come with a 4 yr / 50k mile warranty.

Thank you ! Actually just noticed that I was sent an updated estimate which did get covered under ‘Parts Warranty’ so the total cost dropped to 480$.


Hope anyone else who encounters this situation gets covered by the warranty as well.

So Tesla gave you the new parts warranty even though it was replaced under the normal 8-year warranty period? Interesting...
