Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
From Barrons.com:
GM Stock Is a Buy. The Company Is Quickly Becoming a Major EV Player.
"Several factors play into the bullish case for GM—with a key part being that the automaker plans to double its revenue to about $300 billion by 2030. Nearly a third of those sales, GM predicts, will come...
I saw it posted somewhere, possible Alex Voigt on twitter, that the cars could be sold, but not before the final permit has been issued. I think it was a german official that said it.
There’s been some talk about Joe Justice and his merits or lack thereof. On r/teslainvestorsclub, someone who claims to have worked at Tesla for 4 years claims that JJ is wildly exaggerating. His comments are worth reading just for the general info on management structure, and the differences...
I’ve been thinking, maybe we’re not as good as we thought we were. I mean, stealing candy from a kid is unquestionably despicably and mean, and yet here we are, taking money from people like this guy. It’s like we’re stealing candy from a badly mentally disabled and paralyzed baby.
I found this tweet in relation to the news that VW will have to lay off up to 30.000 workers:
The article itself is paywalled, so I can't verify it, but it's news to me that VW is considering casting bodies from one piece.
The whole thread is very informative.
Alex Voigt has this very interesting bit of info:
According to a credible source with access to VW's order book, about 70-80% of weak deliveries are due to demand constraints and not semiconductor shortages (supply constraints) This is likely the case with other automakers too More about this...
I haven’t seen this linked:
Agile at Tesla, by Joe Justice
Joe is apparently a big name in agile, and in this video he details how Tesla does agile. I recommend watching it, there are a lot of details, including how Elon works at Tesla, plus some SpaceX stuff in the end (which is still...
Something scary has happened: the Guardian has a positive - actually, really, really positive - article about Elon. What is the world coming to?! There's nothing new in it, but I liked it.
‘The smartest person in any room anywhere’: in defence of Elon Musk, by Douglas Coupland
Speaking of Nikola, does anyone know what the state of their lawsuit against Tesla is? You know the one where they claim that Tesla has stolen their truck design for the semi. It's been very long since I've heard or seen anything about it.
"In Q1, we were able to navigate through global chip supply shortage issues in part by pivoting extremely quickly to new microcontrollers, while simultaneously developing firmware for new chips made by new suppliers."
No, people are saying to Ford and consumer reports that anybody can make any car move by putting a brick on the speeder pedal. Basically just saying that it's all rubbish.
So, the Ford CEO has retweeted the Consumer Reports "test" 🤨🙄 What's more though, the vast majority of the replies are on Teslas side,
and they keep tweeting about this here universal defeat device called a brick, which can defeat even a Ford car.
In Space land, it's getting hot: the downselect for Human Landing System* has, according to Eric Berger, been made. It may or may not be announced today, but it's going to be big. Really big. I'm crossing fingers for as big as Super Heavy + starship. If SpaceX wins it's going to influence TSLA...
Re: the moon tweet, I really doubt it's referring to SpaceX. Starship might - *might* - go to the moon late next year, but a lot of stuff have to go right before then, including heat shields and orbital refueling, both untested so far. So I think even if you have a very variable definition of...
Also SpaceX, but I just fell over this very interesting tidbit: To keep up with global demand, SpaceX is breaking ground on a new, state of the art manufacturing facility in Austin, TX. Seems like Austin is going to become a Musk Enterprises stronghold.
The above book is highly recommended btw...
Here's a video from Sandy Munro, providing some background on his interview with Elon. It's mostly focused on SpaceX, but there's some nice bits on why Elon completely beats every other CEO. That bit is from 6:20 onward.
On reddit there's this thread in r/murderedbywords:
It is simply filled to the brim with comments about Teslas, solar roof, power walls, camp mode, games in the car, EVs and very few negative comments. It just keeps going. It's one long organic ad. I wonder how much you'd have to pay to get...
I saw someone on reddit say that the journalist misunderstood, and that an Y every two minutes 24-7 was the goal, but that currently they only had one shift working on the Y.
Some actually positive EV news from Denmark: an interprofessionel agreement among most charging point companies in Denmark (minus Tesla) have agreed to put up 20 000 new chargers before 2025. 20k destination chargers, 2k fast and 1k really fast (I can't recall what they're called in English)...
Agreed, it’s complete bollocks. I read all EV articles on the danish engineering unions newspage, and it’s amazing and frankly scary how misguided most comments are. Instead of EVs, people there claim that we should just - “just” - electrify all roads, or use hydrogen or what about when you have...
Whenever Elon says he’s offline for “a while”, it means between 12 and 48 hours, maximum :D:rolleyes:
Anyway, here’s a small, fun thing:
In Sweden, they’re working on a project on electrical highways, så semis can charge while driving. In Swedish electricity is called “el”. But in tech...
That was awesome. SpaceX had a view on their stream from right below Starship - that was pretty terrifying to watch as it came down and it became clear that it wouldn't be able to right itself lol.
Anyway, pad looks to be OK, SN10 looks to be OK, the problem seemed to be with one of the engines...
Half an hour to SN9 flight. Some idiot in a truck was hidden in the forbidden area, and had to be escorted out by the police.
Edit: trivent now. Launch should be at xx:25-ish, in 12 minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfHqbahPKpY&feature=youtu.be
SN9 is set to fly today, early afternoon Texas time if it goes as planned. They got the FAA approval and everything else that's needed. Now to cross fingers
Now this is interesting! It's from Munro Live: "Sandy and Cory had a chance to visit Boca Chica, TX. They were hoping to see SN9 launch. They got a chance to tour SpaceX and meet Elon. much More to come next week."
In case anyone is also following TSLA on reddit, there's been some shenanigans - bans and stuff - in r/teslainvestorsclub, leading to a new sub called r/TSLALounge. It seems like a lot of the oldtimers there have moved to the new sub.
SN9's flight is the real entertainment today. FAA hasn't approved the flight, but SpaceX has still been fueling the rocket; Elon is on the phone with FAA; one guy is reporting on twitter that FAA has approved it, then a couple minutes later SN9 starts depressing (ie aborting). THEN a local...
You're probably right, but then there's threads like this heavily upvoted, awarded post: "Curious why Papa Elon is shilling $GME? It’s because Melvin Capital shorted $TSLA for years and bragged about it", which ends with "$GME to the , then profits back to a safe store of value: $TSLA."
Meanwhile at SpaceX:
SN9 is posed to fly sometime this afternoon. It passed the flight readiness review, but they have a few things to check up on before it flies, so I'm expecting at least a couple hours, and likely more, before anything happens. Anyone interested in tank watching can do so...
Elon has been gaining twitter followers at an amazing rate the last week or two. It's not that many days ago that he was at 42m, now he's at 42.34m. It might be because of the worlds richest person thing, but I'm a bit surprised by it.
Edit: grammar.
Could we please keep the politics to twitter, reddit, facebook or wherever, please.
You know all the political posts will be deleted anyway, and the mods will be cross.
