Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Yes, perfectly possible and I did this a while ago as So Energy (or something like that) was cheaper for gas. I just give a meter reading for gas each month while Octopus continues as normal on the smart meter.
A simple resolution from Tesla that would keep everybody happy is to have a slider that goes from "very sensitive" to "not sensitive" for automatic braking.
"Any thoughts on what caused this and how to prevent in the future"
You caused it and it can easily be prevented by paying attention.
Why didn't you take back control?
Smart move I think. Promotes the car brands that have signed up and let's them set the cost of charge.
Available to everyone else but at a (much) higher price.
Gives a reason to buy one of the supporting brands.
H ,
A puncture and no spare is one of my worries so I:
Joined Greenflag (with nationwide recovery)
Bought a plug kit
Bought a multipurpose rechargeable "thing" from Halfords for £75 mainly for the air compressor but can also jump start the 12v if the battery ever fails (also has torch, USB...
When I had a manual car I always used the parking brake when stopped for more than a few seconds and it annoyed me when cars in front didn't do the same. Once I had an automatic I realised that avoiding keeping the brake lights on was a pain in the ass, which is why it was so common, and was...
I'd say this latest update is a definite improvement in most areas.
The only regression is that the tenancy to brake when indicating to pull back in after overtaking is back with a vengeance!
Surely it's as simple s increasing the "Reserve for power outages" percentage as high, or even to 100%, as you'd like? And just accept you'll be running on grid mostly/entirely until you decide the risk is over.
The answer is easy. Just use online chat to ask them if the builtin Tesla tracking functionality meets their Tracker requirement, which they told me in Sep of did, then screenshot the chat as evidence.
Four hours is enough, most of the time, to charge the car and Powerwall. Five hours would be better, but not if there was a cost implication. I'm pretty sure a couple of suppliers are offering five hours off peak at 5p although their peak is higher than Octopus (but having a PW this wouldn't...
Hi,
I'm almost identical to Mike Miller (PW2 + GW2 since July, solar is only dumb 1kWp though, Secure SMETS1 smart meter originally from OVO but now with Octopus Go) so thought I'd just add some relevant points.
I remember that the accuracy of the GW2 was a supposedly big improvement.
My smart...
I'm sorry, this was all behind the scenes and not discussed with me or charged extra for. I just thought it was standard. From what other UK PW owners have said I think they all get 5kW as standard.
"The major constraint now is the default 16A limit for generation (see here for more info) which gets applied to Powerwalls even though they are not intended (at the moment) to export to the grid and means that the battery can't meet loads exceeding about 3.68kW."
I pretty much agree with all...
The Powerwall will have quite a long payback, probably over 15yrs, but if you have the cash spare would be a good idea.
However, using it to charge an EV overnight isn't its best use since it only stores 13.5kWh and I think your car's battery is about 50kWh.
What would be a good idea is...
I'm in same situation in UK so just do what you thought with peak during the night and everything else off peak. Use TOU cost saving. The only thing that is a bit suboptimal is the PW decides how much to charge overnight based on previous use & solar so the battery may be too full or too empty...
What makes messing with driverless cars more likely is simply that there is nobody in the car to take unexpected action such as catching them. Putting a bit of tape over a camera in order to disable it moving is really not in the same category as cutting brake lines.
I think people will just step out in front of driverless cars forcing them to stop, then either leave a traffic cone there or put a piece of tape over a camera.
Hi,
Thanks for replying. I'm on a phone so quoting is a little tricky.
The thing is, those 900 people who didn't die because driverless cars are 10x safer are anonymous. Those 100 that die aren't.
The 10 x safer won't apply in all situations. Some scenarios, as I mentioned, will be much more...
I've been thinking about true driverless cars, and I don't think it will ever (well, say in 30 years) happen and certainly not with Tesla's current sensors.
1) Even if driverless cars were statistically 10 x (or even 100 x) safer than driven cars there would always be an accident where the...
I agree with your rough numbers. Although a PW2 with backup gateway is listed at £7.8k with installation on top of that so the return is even harder to justify.
Solar with or without a PW makes no financial sense so if that is your only /main reason you are going to be disappointed.
A PW can charge in under 4 hours.
My advice would be a cheap and GREEN tariff such as Octopus Go (4 hours @5p, rest at 14p). Charge both cars off peak. Use delay timers on...
If Tesla were smart they would develop a new screen without the issue. During same time frame develop a new cpu for it (call it MCU3). Offer CPU upgrade as optional (say) £1k, and swap screen (if old type even if not showing yellow band) as warranty.
We need to be able to tell the Powerwall to charge to x% during off peak rather than it trying to be clever, and failing!

I only watched TG for the review and even with the already mentioned caveats I thought it was a very positive review. If they had also mentioned that BiK for company car drivers will be negliable from next Apr the BMW / Audi / Mercedes sales would take an hammering!
I've been using "SMS, my Car and Me" on my android phone successfully for the last 5 years. Can also read out FB messenger, WhatsApp, as well as texts. Probably others too but I only use these. Replying to texts with template replies is possible.
Thanks for using my referral.
I've put the money from two referrals plus a topup from me to charity. If I get any more referrals the funds will also go the same way.

I think a bigger impact of this is that it will effectively stop Tesla rolling out AP on city roads as part of FSD features with full driver supervision.
Hi
Another vote for Octopus Go. Their 5p for 4 hours is great with a very reasonable 14p peak rate too.

Hi,
Long press of Park button is intended to activate the parking brake in an emergency, i.e. when moving.
When stationary it does nothing that a short press doesn't do. I'm not aware of any way to lock the front wheels as well.
When I bought my car with FSD in September both the sales advisor AND store manager "strongly" advised against it. But I am planning on keeping the car quite a while, it was cheaper than buying later, and I was prepared to take a punt with little expected in the short to medium term. If I see...
I thought the bigger wheels had lower profile tyres so the total diameter is skills for wheel sizes. It is the weight of the wheels and rolling resistance that seems to be the main factors.
I see between 10 & 20% difference in range between my 19 & 21 wheels though in my situation I can't be any...
