Tesla batteries prove best value in class — UBS

Brought up a paywall but searching for the title get's the short story through a different link. The conclusion is cost based rather than longevity or quality, but cool nonetheless: The results showed Tesla’s batteries cost $111 per kilowatt-hour of charge, which are $37/kWh or $2,800 per...

    FS: Model 3 Key Fob

Presumably an attempt to cash in on a shortage by stockpiling limited inventory. Given the lack of expected functionality, not even worth $150

Surround vehicle display limited v2.0 90D

Same error message since my car received the ver. 9 upgrade, and it hasn't disappeared. Service centre reviewed logs and I have an appointment on Oct. 24th - apparently the review showed a "connection or camera issue" - it's a long wait to address a flashing yellow error message in my IC.

Vancouverites looking into Ceramic or Xpel

An excellent question. I had NanoCrystal done on my Model S by Burnaby Auto Spa for about $500, and it's been excellent over the 18 months I've had the car. Don't know if this is a "lesser" product...

From the website it looks like about $1,500.

    Vancouver BC VIN .

    I don't see how a placeholder makes sense - I see a 286xx through the shopping cart.

    Vancouver BC VIN .

My guess is that there will be a swarm of Model 3s unleashed on BC for the long weekend.
  9. Doubletap67

    Vancouver BC VIN .

I don't think any have been delivered in BC, based on discussions with the folks at the West 4th store in Vancouver, and if they know why Ontario got so many weeks of a head start, they aren't sharing.

M3 Tear Down by Munro & Associates. Pictures By Motor Trend

Totally disagree - I'm also in "industry", in my case the Medical Device Industry, and design changes affecting manufacturing happen at a rate of many a week - significant changes that replace major sub-systems happen many times a year for products early in their life-cycle. .

    Intermittent Front Parking Sensor Failure

I've had the same message from my SC - firmware fix in the next few weeks.

    Intermittent Front Parking Sensor Failure

Turning on and off meaning turning off all power to the car, or just exit and lock?

    Intermittent Front Parking Sensor Failure

Same here, also Dec 2016 MS75D. Vancouver service have checked it twice and because it's intermittent they give it back with a "functioning as designed". Within a few minutes of driving away I've got no front sensor information showing in the IC again. Incredibly frustrating. I don't think...

Are the body shop guys well trained?

Totally agreed. Taking it apart is how they came up with a list of parts to order from Tesla to begin with. Sadly, I'm speaking from recent experience. On the plus side, my shop in Vancouver is top notch and they're not winging it.

    New Software Update

I don't see any mention of more detail about cars ahead in the release notes. I received this a few days ago and don't see any difference.

What's the update? That's the first step in determining if anyone's tried it.

Tesla Phantom Battery Losses of 20%

Done it many times, and in my car it doesn't add up. There's energy use that's not accounted for in the Wh/mi displayed - either that or my battery is a lot smaller than advertised.
  21. Doubletap67

Tesla Phantom Battery Losses of 20%

This.... Best explanation I've read for the issue I think the OP was describing (and which I've asked about in the past to no avail).
  22. Doubletap67

Tesla Phantom Battery Losses of 20%

I'm fairly sure the OP is talking about the same "anomaly" I started a thread about when I first got my car last year: multiplying the Wh/mi by miles traveled doesn't equal the percentage of battery consumed. Example: I have a 75D, it's supposed to have about 72 kWh of capacity in reality, if...

    Cruise not available

There was a long thread about this a month or two ago. I had identical symptoms to yours and problem was addressed by firmware. I'd keep pushing if I were you. The idea that this was an intermittent connection issue was floated in that thread but that doesn't match the symptoms.

    ICE'd?

Yup, it's not that they think we're superior and deserving of rock star parking, it's just cheaper to put the spots the closest electrical run from the building.

    Chris Lattner leaves Tesla

Agreed that based on CV, Karpathy seems a better fit, but the six month tenure for Lattner isn't encouraging. Possibly he was hired in desperation. Given his tweet, I'd say it wasn't his choice to leave.

    12,000 Mile Road Trip

I guess in the end it's all good for all of us, an infrastructure that completely removes range anxiety from potential EV owners hastens the transition. I would not be inclined to trust GM with the future of sustainable transport, however, but maybe that's just me.
  29. Doubletap67

    12,000 Mile Road Trip

Absolutely no way that Tesla will make a deal on SC access - it's the killer app that prevents any current or on the horizon EV from being competition.

Did Tesla make a weirdmobile? Comparison 3 BMW 3 dash

The problem with that is there's probably no FSD for a couple of years at least - so this dash is going to be it. I'm reserving judgement at the moment.

Stategy for Lack of Spare Tire on Model S

I'm not sure what the prevalence is of the foam in Tesla tires, or when it became standard, but mine certainly has it - was a pain in the butt to find a replacement in stock when I had a flat that couldn't be repaired. Car was disabled sitting on the flat for two days until my SC opened and the...
  33. Doubletap67

Stategy for Lack of Spare Tire on Model S

Does fix-a-flat work on a tire with a sound deadening foam ring? I'd have thought that would make it less likely to seal.
  34. Doubletap67

Stategy for Lack of Spare Tire on Model S

Tesla's roadside assistance partners don't have spares in Vancouver Canada, so presumably plenty of places you'd be faced with a flat bed tow to service centre (which very conveniently operates banking hours).

Tesla Motors: PLEASE stop lying about specifications (60 to 75 upgrade)

This seems to be a bit of a hazy mystery, I posted something similar to the above when I first got my car, using consumed battery percentage and kWh used to work out the capacity of my battery resulted in capacity of 55 kWh or so.

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

    Software Update 17.17.4

I got it two days ago - my country was set to US for some reason. I'd been having the missing AP features issues since 8.1, so I was probably prioritized.

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

The speed limit showing at all after starting a drive is inconsistent with my experience, and how it's been described in this thread. Either there's nothing at all or everything works until you park and leave the car. Showing some AP features for a minute or two and then disappearing is very...

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

Same here. No guarantee that it'll last I guess, but something has definitely changed since 17.17.4, I've had at least 6 drives with AP every time, something I haven't had since the week after 8.1 was released.
  40. Doubletap67

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

Firmware issue as in the AP features are all missing?
  41. Doubletap67

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

Okay. I had the message "Contact Tesla Service for manual calibration " which prevented me from getting high speed autosteer after 8.1 was released. My SC did the camera pitch angle adjustment (there's a photo of my service invoice earlier in the thread) and that addressed things until I then...

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

Unfortunately the 17.7.4 seems (seemed?) to be the only solution right now. Did it initially give you functionality back which then disappeared? Did you ever get a message about manual calibration required when you did have AP features? I was scheduled for an ECU replacement tomorrow at my SC...

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

Wow that's bad news. I got the update this evening and on the first drive after all worked. Will drive again in a few minutes.
  45. Doubletap67

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

I have too and was also told I was priority for the fix. Didn't occur to me for a second I'd get an older one with zero apparent changes and no fix to the problem.
  46. Doubletap67

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

The update is downloaded to my car already. I'm not usually first wave so maybe that's a good sign.
