    Dash cam for 2016 S HW1

I have the remains of a blackvue partially installed. I removed the front camera to try and figure out why it had stopped working entirely. It's about 3 years old, though the shut-down power backup stopped working just a few months in. While I haven't determined the cause of the total...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Was it your car's history or another car's history? I inferred from @Kim-t's post that their battery took on the history of their car rather than preserving the history of the battery itself.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I'm curious, for those of you who had your batteries replaced, when you got the new batteries, had the status been reset so that the battery odometer was effectively zero after it was installed, along with the charging statistics for AC and DC charging, or were they notably non-zero?

Tesla YANKED FSD option without notice - Class Action lawsuit? Any Lawyers here? [Resolved]

Pardon? With over the air updates, that's precisely the issue here. (also by refusing to franchise sales or service, refusing to sell parts to 1st or 3rd parties, and by refusing to service vehicles that are modified, but that's not on topic)

Tesla YANKED FSD option without notice - Class Action lawsuit? Any Lawyers here? [Resolved]

I haven't seen a EULA for FSD and a quick google search only turned up links to threads like this for the first page. A lot of software licenses start with the phrase "This software is licensed, not sold", which presumably is the approach Tesla has taken. But again I haven't actually seen (to...

Battery longevity and buying an EV off a dealer lot

Yeah I've heard that about the Kia. Does it let you lower that limit or otherwise set a charge limit for AC charging? As you say, 100% doesn't necessarily mean 4.2V per cell, but I prefer to have the option of lowering the charge limit myself.

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I'm not sure if it really means much of anything, but the yellow ring of inadequacy on my MCU1 has faded to the point that you can't see it any longer. I didn't do anything different or have it "repaired", though it was a lot less severe than some of the pictures I've seen of others.

Battery longevity and buying an EV off a dealer lot

I went to the Audi dealership today to look at the e-tron and one of the things I'd asked about was the ability to set the battery charge limit to prolong the life of the battery. The dealer was oblivious, but I managed to find it in the e-tron menu system where I believe it had been set to...

Tesla forced an update of my P85D to 2019.16.2

I've apparently completely lost track of what version is what. I'm on 2018.42 which I guess is V9 and I confused it with V10 or ..whatever.

Tesla forced an update of my P85D to 2019.16.2

Did you mean 2018? V10 started with 2018.40 or thereabouts. On a related note, when I took my car in recently to have them fix something they broke during the last service, Tesla refused to fix the issue unless I upgraded to the latest firmware. I refused. At least they asked, but I suspect...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

It sounds like they're aware of the issue and what causes it but it still seems like they're doing precious little to mitigate it. Today I took my S in for service and observed two relecant issues. First, a tech specifically mentioned pulling syslogs so I guess they do look at them. Second they...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Linux on an embedded system is a problem that's been solved many times before, Tesla is just doing it the most bumbling way possible. I guarantee you more thought and effort and design went into OpenWRT and the like than went into the Tesla MCU. Tesla's software/firmware development approach...

Front Lights Stay On (Faint) - Normal?

I was told this, too. Years ago. I'm not going to hold my breath. Frankly, I think any time something goes wrong with the car, the service center is supposed to say it's a software issue that will be fixed in a later update.

    P100D tire wear and alternatives

On Saturday, I ordered replacement tires from Tire Rack. Monday, things got weird. On the way to work, I hit a trench in the road that a construction crew had left behind which resulted in a big hole in the side wall of one of my front tires. I didn't lose much pressure, though (maybe 2 psi)...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Isn't that an inevitability, though? Elon's "Should be better at this point" tweet notwithstanding, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that this issue is being addressed except by Tesla making people pay for full replacements of the MCU1 with another MCU1... That thread has some real gems...

    Austin tire installation?

Currently leaning towards buying on amazon (cheapest prices) and installing at maybe NTB. Discount Tire is closer, but they're always busy. I might drive by the NTB to chat first just to work out their capabilities. Luckily the in-car manual is working again despite my not having installed...

Success with insurance (USAA) and Tesla authorized body shops?

Actually I do remember an issue cropping up at obe point where a third-party adjuster hired by USAA vastly underestimated the cost of repairs, so much so that it was obvious to me immediately, but USAA came through and paid the real cost.

Success with insurance (USAA) and Tesla authorized body shops?

I've had a Tesla in the local Tesla-approved body shop on a couple of occasions without significant difficulty. Yes, the "insurer approved" thing came up (and yes, I have USAA), but maybe the law in Texas is different in that regard.

Did they make v10 UI better for Model S?

There are probably regional laws and/or regulations that apply. I stopped installing at 2018.42. Is getting an actual list of new features before installing something that was since added? They didn't even provide so much as a version number before installation up through at least 2018.42 as...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Hey, I wouldn't worry, Tesla is thinking about friends and family who can't watch videos, sing karaoke and play videogames with their car. So that means they're going to give us an upgrade. Or it means we aren't friends or family, one or the other.

    P100D tire wear and alternatives

Interesting. There are some areas in my neighborhood I have programmed to raise the suspension to avoid bottoming out. Hadn't thought of them possibly causing tire wear. That happens pretty much daily but not for more than a couple of blocks of driving. I never lower the suspension unless I'm...

    P100D tire wear and alternatives

My S has pretty significant tire wear on both the inside and outside of the tire tread. These seems to suggest under inflation of the tires, which is entirely possible but the TPMS hasn't complained. I'm not sure offhand at what pressures it starts complaining nor am I sure at what pressures...

    V10 on MCU1

Didn't the S at one point early on have the ability to roll down windows via the key fob, but that feature got removed for safety and/or security reasons? Or am I misremembering? It's probably technically capable of window vent or whatever, but it's been disallowed for reasons.

Did they make v10 UI better for Model S?

"The best process is no process" Elon said last night at the Starship presentation, and in my opinion as a software professional that quote alone explains an awful lot about the current state of affairs WRT Tesla firmware. So much so that I've considered throwing it into my TMC signature.

Did they make v10 UI better for Model S?

I wouldn't say it's the best, it's just the last one I was willing to allow to be installed, i.e. the one they restored the ability to keep the rear cam up top. :D

Service Bulletin out on Hard Acceleration "Shudder"

After a quick search of this thread, I see no mention of tire wear in relation to this issue. Has anyone else had issues with tire wear? My two front tires have really uneven wear on both the inside and outside edges of the tires (really desperately need to be replaced, actually). I've got...

Did they make v10 UI better for Model S?

So I've heard, but the only time an update might have ever been downloaded was at the service center, where you can't disable the wifi from connecting. And you can still refuse in the off chance you do get an update and it will eventually stop asking. Anecdote: I'm still at 2018.42.2. I was...

Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) SpaceX and Boeing Developments

Your math is better than mine. I couldn't be bothered to go back and redo the numbers when it was apparent my ending speed didn't match the quote :D (edit: I should also point out how non-linear the actual acceleration will be just due to the rocket equation, i.e. that mass is dropping...

Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) SpaceX and Boeing Developments

.5 mi / 7.5s = 107 m/s. Assuming smooth acceleration (Which it probably isn't), 107m/s / 7.5s = 14m/s/s / 9.8m/s/s = 1.5G. My guess though that acceleration is not constant. It's probably higher at the start to get the crew away quickly, but lower acceleration during sustained flight to...

Did they make v10 UI better for Model S?

If you want to prevent updates, connect to a wifi access point then don't turn that access point on ever again. Will the Next-Gen Tesla Roadster Be Delayed?

I feel sorry for all those people who pre-ordered a roadster expecting it to have "plaid" performance, but hey, this is modus operandi for Tesla: make some announcement, get people to pay money, fail to deliver. Rinse, repeat.

FSD for EAP owners, reduced to 3k until 8/16

I was under the impression that all the features currently marketed under the "FSD" label were available to those who had paid for EAP, since they had all been provided as EAP features before EAP was discontinued and those features moved to FSD. If that makes the least bit of sense. If that's...
