Reevaluating my opinion of my M3

I traded in my 2019 M3 LR recently, for a 2024 MY LR. The Y is much quieter and cushier, though the real reason for trading in was spouse interest in easy entry/exit and cargo space. I find the Y less fun to drive, but it is far more pleasant. I've heard the new 3 is pleasant, but alas it was...

Curbed the holy EFF out our MYP Ubertine wheels using FSD 12.3.3!

Sad condolences. This happened a lot in the very early days of FSD beta, then it seemed to go away. Bummer that it needs to be banished again.

    Total eclipse charging in Texas

I suspect the crunch will only be on "eclipse day", and mostly *after* the eclipse as everyone will depart at the same time. That is what happened back in August 2017. I think the above posters will do just fine.

Help with Grand Canyon Road trip

I've found it quite accurate, but by default it assumes you drive the speed limit. If not, you had better adjust that :) I use ABRP for trip planning, but for the trip the in-car nav works really well.

100% range on new Model Y LR with 3 miles on it calculates to 301 miles

FWIW my month-old 2024 MY LR also consistently reports about 300 miles range, not the 310 shown on the sticker. In contrast the 2019 M3 LR it replaced consistently reported 311 miles, exactly the same as the EPA rating (making me wonder if the software was creating this consistency...

    Another Battery Range Concern

I think that route is a little thin on supercharging, so recommend using ABRP (and be sure to adjust the speed offset) to help plan.

    Acceleration pedal feedback

This is probable due to "hold mode" (circled capital H where speed is normally displayed). It applies brakes somehow, which takes less energy than using the motor to keep the car stationary. My 2019 3 clicked both entering and leaving hold mode.

    Tesla touch up paint kit

Years ago I tried one a couple or three times and completely funked (the final step always wiped away the fix). Youtube how-to videos back them were similarly negative. Perhaps they work now, or perhaps there are more helpful videos. I hope so because I have a new Tesla now and it is just a...

    Loyalty credits?

I believe you are correct about the credits. I used 1500 credits for 500 miles (US) of supercharging 3 times, to get 1500 miles that expire in 18 months. (edit: I think this extension is limited to 3 years) Last I checked, using credits for performance boost (I think this is limited to 3 and Y...

Has UWB hardware made it into HW4 vehicles?

Uhm, I got an "improve your phone key" (not sure of exact wording) but that was to change settings to "always allow" location access. The UWB change is to allow "Nearby Interactions"

Trading in my M3 for MY - Sales process is a JOKE!

Did you also get 10k "loyalty" credits? That is worth a few $, or quite a few if you want acceleration boost.

Is it normal to hear banging while supercharging?

My car did this for the first year, apparently due to sheet metal "popping" as it flexed due to the temperature change.

    NACS extension cord thoughts

I think officially Tesla (and others) are opposed to any sort of extension cord, for both legal and pragmatic reasons, and for home charging I agree. For charging on the road there are two problems: distance from wall outlet to car, and the type of the wall outlet. You need both a collection of...
  15. H

What do I need for charging on road trips?

Beware the moble connector might not reach from the car to the outlet. For 120V I include a 75 foot extension cord. It is only 16 gauge which is slightly risky so I'm careful to fully uncoil it and check for warmth, but actually the car does a good job backing off the amps so IMO this is pretty...

    FSD 11.4.x experiences

A look at TeslaFi.com Firmware Tracker suggests 11.4.2 installs are throttling down and I'm not going to get it. It is a bummer being stuck on 11.3.6, though admittedly that was a big improvement.

"Getting by" on a 15A outlet?

120V@15A suffices, adding 40 miles (or more) of range overnight. But evenings out or running errands can create a deficit that takes days to recover. I did this for over a year, then spouse had a 240V installed and happiness increased. It unleashed the car and we could return from a long trip...

Do you enjoy using "Autosteer on city streets" (current pre-release FSD) -- a poll

FSD beta is great entertainment, but spouse passenger does not see it that way. So I only use it on solo trips. Spouse is not entirely happy with highway AP either, because it doesn't shy away from semi trucks. Apparently 11.3.1 addresses that so I'm hopeful that our long road trips will have...

Only 12A on NEMA 10-30 outlet

uhm. I use an emery board (nail file) cut down to fit, to "brighten" the contacts (which alas cannot be seen). That might help. Might be best to turn off power first. update: do check if the outlet is hot to the touch when in use. That is a big red flag.

Battery steaming lately after charging? Is this normal? Just started after only 15,000KMS.

Yes. Has never happened to me but I've heard of it. You could web search "tesla battery steaming after supercharging" The car has cameras and should have a popup "I notice steam from the front of the car. Not to worry, we are just cooling down the flux capacitor". I suppose they will get to...

    Tesla Supercharger function key needed

Another way: touch inside the "navigation" search box. The window that pops up has "home", "work", and "charging". touch charging. (I wonder if a voice command would work. I'd prefer that except it interrupts the music.)

    Must-have extras/accessories for a Model 3 used (2019)?

Getting charging figured out is essential. USB stick (or perhaps SSD) for sentry mode. Google "tesla usb sentry" for options. I'm quite happy with the Tesla Model 3 USB Hub for Sentry and Dashcam storage - Jeda Products and sufficiently slim USB drives hide nicely in it.

    ModelY required maintenance

Tesla should promote an annual checkup. Or at least every couple years. I RTFM but there isn't much there, and it is stressful having to figure out how to get the state inspection and replacing the tires and cabin air filter all on my own. Oh and don't forget the wipers and washer fluid! You...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Humans also improve their lane selection, speed, etc. as they drive the same route more than once. This is particularly helpful in heavy traffic when painted cues are often obscured and last-moment adjustments are difficult. So mapping of some sort remains useful.

    FSD Beta 10.12

Re: "stop and creep", there are intersections where the cameras have a problem, but that is a minority of intersections. What humans do is slow to creep speed at the stop sign but keep going to an appropriate stopping point. And then go when all is clear. When there is a well-placed stop line...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Sorry, I've too small a sample size (3 different busy roundabouts). In prior versions I never noticed "2" being a problem, and the only time "1" happened to me was when the road coming from the left was obscured by shrubbery.
  27. H

    FSD Beta 10.12

Can confirm 10.12.2 is much better on roundabouts. And the display shows cars further ahead than in previous versions. Otherwise the improvements seem minor to me. Annoyances remain. But those roundabouts! I'm very happy about that.

I want to let my friend drive but not affect my safety score. How?

Sorry to hear about that, since it is really the only fix for FCW. After my spouse would come home after a safe, normal, drive I'd take the car out and "fix" the hard braking by driving a loop around our neighborhood and repeatedly accelerating to 30mph and letting regen bring the car to nearly...

I want to let my friend drive but not affect my safety score. How?

Perhaps this loophole still works: after the drive, before putting the car in park and exiting the vehicle, do the scroll-wheel reset. This used to clear the info for that drive. Perhaps you should test this on a minor drive first.

On FSD beta, car moved over when being passed on two lane road

On 10.10.2 on a two lane road, an overtaking car decided to pass me with little room to spare. As things got tight my model 3 veered partly onto the shoulder, and then returned to the lane. I thought that was pretty cool.

My Full List of AP Gripes

My spouse passenger hates that AP remains centered in the lane when there is an adjacent big truck. My appeasement strategy is to disengage AP until the truck is clear. IMO this is less safe but better than not being permitted to use AP at all.

    Home Charging and Preconditioning Questions

what I do: in the app slide to 100 and see how long that would take. Suppose 3 hours. Then I used scheduled charging to start 3 hours before departure. Or maybe 3.5 hours if I really want to reach 100. But I'm happy with 95+ and 95 means less "no regen" surprise. Oh! After departure set the...

    Home Charging and Preconditioning Questions

Since you mention road trip: If yours will need supercharging stop(s) I recommend leaving with 100%, since that is gentler on the battery (if you don't stay at 100 for a long time). And it saves a few minutes at the first supercharger. I usually use the app to start charging to 100 a few...

    V11 Glitchy camera feed?

Happens to me, freeze/lag and then clears up. I was thinking it was related to the backup camera recall (I got the email), but now suspect not. Hopefully tesla is already aware but reporting it in app might be good (I'm going to, after the next software update).

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

Oh! I should turn it off too, next time it gets annoying. I went through Atlanta a couple days ago and it kept second-guessing me about the HOV2+ lane.

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

Yes, FSD ignores that. Interesting quirk. I have NOA enabled at the start of every trip (in the "customize NOA" settings), it appears you do not.

    Ride / sound comfort

I'm annoyed by the uneven wind noise in my 2019 M3, even though it is objectively quieter than any previous or current car I've owned. But it is livable. The great sound system (or a nearby car) easily drowns it out. I'm just back from a 2000 mile road trip that was fantastically better than...

    Anyone regret joining FSD-beta fleet?

If you use "city streets" autosteer every chance you get, then I think you'd enjoy FSD beta. It fixes almost every annoyance you've had with "city streets" and replaces them with an entirely different set!

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

10.4 seems to drive slightly better than 10.3.1, or perhaps I'm just getting used to the quirks. The speed bump visualization is nice. (10.4 might be much better on rare "edge cases", but only Tesla telemetry could confirm that.)
  41. H

    Snippiness 2.0

Good riddance to the dangerously inadequate radar. The ultrasonic sensors will IMO be omitted soon too. Perhaps future cars will be equipped with a high-resolution radar that has an actual benefit. The usual "city streets" FSD cannot handle speed bumps, bicycles, pedestrians, parked cars...

Model 3 Tires, Tire Sizes, Types, make / model recommendations, tire discussions, etc

Tire rack finds tons of choices: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/ I just replaced the tires on my 2019 m3 awd R18 with "Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus" and they seem fine. This replaces the (more expensive and hard to find) original "Michelin Primacy MXM4 AC". Spouse thinks...
