Tesla now using deep neural net for auto wipers (2019.40)

It's that time of year when the Pacific Northwest US gets a lot of different rain conditions. I have to say, this "deep rain" is just not getting the job done. If I were designing a system, I would have at least one camera with a shallow depth of field focused on the windshield, and maybe a...

Voice commands not working with 40.50?

It's working about one out of every five times now, so the busy server theory is looking more likely.

Voice commands not working with 40.50?

i tried it both ways. If I hold the button down, it actually closes the voice prompt window. The only times it has worked, I have NOT been holding it down.

Voice commands not working with 40.50?

Same here. HUGE regression as I can't use voice commands at all now. I wish I could roll back.

    YouTube TV

yes, it’s useful if you are in the car waiting on something. For example, there is a store here that only opens for a few hours on Tuesday and Thursday early evening. I went there after work, bit arrived about 15 minutes early. I was able to sit in the parking lot and watch a football game on YT...

    2019.36.1

It allows regenerative braking below 5mph and as you slow seamlessly transitions to brakes to stop and hold the car. This allows you to spend much more time just using the accelerator pedal and you rarely need to use the brake pedal. it is only available on cars that have the newer motors that...

    2019.36.1

yes, there were some posts up on Reddit about a couple of significant bugs in the release. One was that when the car was in the new one-pedal driving mode, when backing up on an incline, the car might go forwards instead of backwards. The other issue I saw was some guy who enabled the scheduled...

    2019.36.x

Maybe some fix that was in 2019.36.1, that they have now back-ported to the branch from which 2019.12.* was being released - while they work on the problems with 2019.36.

i consider Hulu, Netflix and Youtube substantive features, great for charging as you say. We’ll have to agree to disagree on the value of the “easter eggs”.

No thanks. I want the Tesla engineers working on substantive features, not Halloween “Easter Eggs”, additional Monty Python animations, or Enhanced Fart Mode.

Supercharger - Cle Elum, WA (LIVE Dec 2018, 12 V2 stalls)

My wife and I were out there last Friday and Saturday. Looks like there is still a lot of interior construction to go. But the location couldn't be more convenient - just 10-20 meters from the superchargers.

Tesla trademarks "Deep Rain" Neural Net

Bring it on. I spent a significant portion of the weekend driving through rain and some snow. It was quite stressful, and having wipers that worked without me having to diddle around with the touchscreen would have helped.

    Anyone else’s Spotify perform poorly?

Or the carrier throttling traffic from Spotify’s servers. Slacker is a fringe streaming service, probably not on their radar screen, but Spotify is one of the top ones, and it’s totally in character for AT&T or Verizon to do this.

That sure sounds like network congestion.

    Anyone else’s Spotify perform poorly?

It’s very possible that whichever carrier they have contracted with LTE is throttling traffic from Spotify’s servers.

    Cortana into Tesla

I think the there's a greater chance of monkeys flying out of my butt. But I would love it if the car could leverage one of the existing voice assistants like Cortana, Google Assistant, or Siri. There is a huge investment in building this technology, and it's not Tesla's core business. But I...

    Monty Python Easter egg

Yes, that's what I'm referring to. It sounds like an actual horse galloping rather than someone mimicking that by striking two coconut halves together as in the Monty Python movie. My guess is that there's some copyright issue involved with the actual MP sound clip.

    What's next after V10.0?

That would be an improvement over the track record so far. i really want them to get this right. “Smart Summon” is little more than a gimmick, IMHO, and clearly rushed out in an attempt to meet a promised date. City driving needs to be done right, and I would rather they miss the promised date...

    Spotify audio quality?

Spotify's music catalog is great - second only to Apple Music, IIRC. But where they excel is in music recommendations. I was a Spotify user briefly before switching to Apple Music due to issues with the Spotify Car play app (possibly Apple's fault - they haven't learned to play well with others...

Musk: V10 wide release "hopefully end of august" after early access

yes, i’m aware of the firmware tracker. I thought of another reason they might roll out two releases back-to-back like that. Sometimes you have some code that only needs to be there temporarily during some transition, and then once the transition is complete, you deploy another update without...

Musk: V10 wide release "hopefully end of august" after early access

Yeah, i know all about incremental rollout, canary deployments, etc. I work in Microsoft Azure, and before that I worked in Bing were we did deloyments over hundreds of thousands of servers. But all of that you're deploying something that's had some internal testing first, and less than 1 day is...

Musk: V10 wide release "hopefully end of august" after early access

Must have been significant to do another rollout this quickly. One of the well-known principles of computer services is that the biggest outages are most often when someone reacts to a small problem without proper testing and planning and turns the small problem into a big problem.

Thank you for posting that. I think what he says supports my assertion. It's important to distinguish what they are doing now from the more future looking stuff he mentions, and even what's in the code branch they are using internally now. I suspect it is going to be very noticeable change in AP...

Musk: V10 wide release "hopefully end of august" after early access

Yes, and for simple TACC, for the most part, it's not necessary for the system to anticipate other drivers' actions. The computer can react very fast and doesn't get distracted and so even with a brute force approach should be able to slow or stop to avoid a collision within the capabilities of...

I suspect the current NN is identifying objects of interest and determining bounding boxes for those. This is then used to create the model you see in the display. The way the objects (cars, bicycles, trucks, etc.) shown there bounce around is a strong indicator that they aren't doing any...
