I've understood that Tesla (and other EV producers) discourage the use of extention cords when charging. This must be a safety issue?*
For example: if I charge from a 220V 16A outlet and I use a cord only rated for 10A it could get hot and start a fire. The way I've understood though is that the car (Tesla) will sense the increased resistance and lower the current flow? Or maybe stop charging all together?
However, if I were to charge with a quality extention cord , with the proper dimensions and insulation, how would that be a problem? And would there be any way the car could "know" that there is an extention in use?
