Why do they even bother with "concept" vehicles when most do not make it to production?

I think many car companies let their designers go wild on the concept cars, then they pick little themes and concepts and integrate them into their production cars. So you might see some subtle details of that car show up in some more practical mainstream future Renault models.

For example, in 1983 Renault made a concept car called the Gabbiano...

5 years later their '19' model has some similarities:

In 1991 they made the 'scenic' concept:

Which later resulted in a less adventurous production model:

Lots more Renault concepts here, many of which inspired later production cars.

Until Tesla came along to slap sense into people, Electric vehicle design suffered badly from the "Concept Look"

Those subtle details are probably going to be less of a factor as concept designs begin to reflect more of the end product look (except for Volt ).

Mostly pretty good looking.

Trying to clean home window blinds is a pain. Can't even imaging the difficulty of cleaning road and brake dust from the back of this thing.
"blinds" ... "back" ... wait a minute ... where's the FRONT of this thing ?

(Edit: Oh, never mind. I just read the article with the rear-end photo ... You're right ! PAIN.)
