Simultaneous production of Tesla Model S for US and Europe? Or US production on hold?

As from today (July 8th, 2013) the production of the Tesla Model S for the European market will start.
But will Tesla Motors keep on producing the Tesla Model S for the US market at the same time as well?
Or will the production of the Tesla Model S for the US market be put on hold for a number of weeks, so that they can focus entirely on the production of the Tesla Model S for the European market?

Taking advantage of last weeks vacation to switch over tooling for Europe makes sense to me & I was prepared for a delay when I finalized on 6/20, but my status is confirmed with a delivery window between 7/18 & 8/1 so a hold isn't evident.

I was told by a product specialist in the Tesla store that "half" of the production lines are going to be switched over to do the European production.

I also finalized on 6/20 (VIN 15639) and my delivery window is 7/24 - 8/7, but I'm on the east coast, so looks like our dates match up pretty well. Seems like they're still going to be building US cars this month.

Even with weekly alternation (US vs. European) production we should see the European SIGs built quickly and the rest of the oders fulfilled by year end. Still better if second shift for European models, but I don't think so.

So if USA was halted we should get notified of our delivery delay?

If USA wasn't already halted would they halt the last week of July & not take advantage of last weeks vacation?

They used last weeks vacation to add a second line for EU?

One line with mixed production???

In the Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing thread, member evmile just posted this

The factory did 600 cars the last week of June. I got delivery Friday, June 30 th at the factory with the tour. The first week of July they will be off to retool, reconfigure and recalibrate equipment. This week they are doing European signature series so they will be painting Signature Red again as we saw during the tour. They build the European cars, then remove the battery and wheels so they can be "assembled" in Europe for a lower import duty.

My Model S was ordered in June and is expected to arrive in August. Maybe I can hope to get an EU model by mistake, that way I have a good shot at getting those elusive and mythical parking sensors! LOL

Ditto here (see sig below). If they only have one production line, perhaps it'll make Euro cars this week and then they'll switch it back and make our cars next week? That doesn't really make sense, nor does it allow for retooling back to the U.S. config or for testing our cars prior to delivery.

Unfortunately it seems like we should be prepared for delays, like you mention.

I finalized on 6/19 and my S85 is wrapping up production this week, so it does not seem US models are completely on hold. I was given a delivery window of 7/16-7/31. If would be interesting to see if there is a big jump in the delivery windows.

OK. But what about the other European Tesla Model S deliveries (P)?

Let's see, if we estimate that about 6,000 Tesla Model S EV's will be produced in Q3 2013, and about half of them will be for Europe, then about 3,000 Tesla Model S EV's will be delivered to Europe in or just after Q3 2013. That's a big chunk of the current European reservations. The remaining part of the current European reservations then will have to be produced in Q4 2013.

Or is an increase of the production capacity (to 800 EV's per week?) at the Tesla Factory in Fremont a more logical strategic step/move? If the demand is keeping pace, then why not?

That was suggested to them for Canada, to eliminate the duty on the car, but they elected not to.

Would at least not make sense for Norway, as there is no duty, no VAT no other taxes on EV´s....

And Thats why the Norwegian ordered cars Are shipped directly to Norway instead of via the Netherlands like all other EU cars AFAIK.

On the Tesla Motors forum, in the thread "Norwegian Deliveries", j.gjerde just posted that he received an email from Tesla Motors on July 4th, 2013:

Mail from Tesla July 4th;
"There is no delay in Model S deliveries, all we did is that we will start a bit later instead of July in August, but this wont affect your Model S delivery.
As we are going to ramp up production and delivery very rapidly. So you can still expect your Model S in September – October."

If this is true than this is very significant BREAKING NEWS, I would say. Right?

Than they might have decided to be manufacturing the Tesla Model S simultaneously for both the US and Europe. And more importantly, this might be happening in 2 separate production lines as well.
That would be great news, in many ways, I think.

For our friends overseas we have to make two distinct differences.

European Union goes via the Netherlands (Tilburg)

But Norway isn't a part of the EU, so the cars get shipped there directly.
