    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Apparently black seats is the kiss of death for the Model 3 Performance in the US. This car was ordered much later than mine but they are telling me mid July now and I ordered right away on day one. If I had just ordered white seats this wouldn’t have been an issue like it is now.

This is how important the 60 foot time is for the 1/4 mile

That is the run we saw before from a test drive. The 0-40 mph is great. It matches my best gutted run and then the anchor just gets thrown out for the 40-60 mph. Here is my best 100% stock run with a 2022 Model 3 Performance vs. that new MIC car. Then the 3rd run is my quickest run with a...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I am not certain that a US based 2024 Model 3 Performance isn’t quicker than that. Hard to judge 0-100 kph vs 0-60 mph though.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Those Demon 170s are blowing up left and right. All of the YouTubers who have them have broken them already. They rarely trap that high too. They get a good launch with perfect prep. Otherwise they just spin the tires for days.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

They have to know when to expect cars. The “Delivery” guy at the desk said it was no problem for him to lookup my order and see when the build is currently scheduled for. The issue is that the build date truly is fluid and it can change either direction. I think the people that work at Tesla...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

2024 Model 3 Performance is what he was referring to specifically with that comment. They move a ton of cars through that dealership but we were only referring to the Model 3 Performance at that specific moment.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Remember Tesla is still telling people who order one today that they should get it in June. They are not above simply lying about predicted dates. We have seen it before and we will continue to see it again and again.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Are you a 121536 or lower? He was reading directly from his screen and he said it was showing a predicted build date of 7/2/24. It may be wrong but his screen was definitely telling him that information.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Order Update: I got my confirmation email at 12:24 PM on 4/23/24 Eastern time for a Red/Black. My order number is RN121536XXX and my delivery estimate was May-Jun and then it switched to May 28 - June 30 early on and hasn’t changed since. I went into the Raleigh Tesla location today and they...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

It is really very important to understand how quick the Model S LR is at higher speeds. It can do a 7.59 second 60-130 mph. That is great for a full size sedan that isn’t $150k+. The Model 3 will never do that without two permanent magnet motors and a much bigger battery. If you are expecting...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Here are the times from 60 mph on up for the fastest 60-130 mph I ever did. It was definitely downhill too.
  14. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

With a fully optimized battery I predict that the new US Model 3 Performance will look similar to this. However, it is hard to predict the final trap speed since we haven’t seen any 95+ mph data yet. Make sure 18s fit before you buy them. You might find they don’t help much with acceleration...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I am starting to wonder if people who order today will get them before Labor Day? Never mind in June.😉
  16. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

On my fastest run with the old car gutted on 18” wheels it took more than 3 seconds for that 60-90 mph and that was an 11.17 @ 120.0 mph 1/4 mile. Taking even .4 seconds off that time would please just about anyone. I have seen what I need to see for the US car. I am just counting down the days...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I 100% agree. I think it will be 2.95 without rollout subtracted and the 60-100 mph times will be significantly quicker too. This isn’t a scientific test and I hate to post imprecise data but it is all we have right now so here it goes. My 60 mph starts at 18 seconds into the video and the 90...

That’s way quicker then. Like way way quicker.
  22. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

That looks way faster up top than even my fastest gutted run. You can zoom in on the speedo in the first run of this video. That looks like what I was expecting. Pulled much harder than mine even when mine was gutted. Edit: I watched both videos a few more times and the new US car is WAY...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

That quote wasn’t from me was it? I never said you don’t pay depreciation on a lease. I said that it is irrelevant how much the car is actually worth after a few years because they automatically take it back without even giving you the opportunity to buy it. Leasing is simply a bet on...
  24. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

You are paying depreciation on a loan too. You are just hoping you are paying more principal than the depreciation after a few years of making payments. Without the tax credit that is entirely unlikely with a loan on this car.
  25. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

But the lease ALWAYS has you paying less each month. There is absolutely zero chance this car is going to be worth more than I owe in two years when I don’t get the tax credit with a purchase. Yes, you pay depreciation each month with a lease but with the tax credit discount you will always pay...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

So it appears all of these first cars have white seats. What happens if you ordered white seats but don’t get in the first batch of cars? Are they going to run out of white seats quickly and then delay the rest of the orders with white seats?
  27. M

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

If I was Tesla and I had to decide who gets a car right away I would look at what city or area has the most number of orders for a configuration that I was making first. For instance if I had 6 orders for Red cars with white interiors all going to SoCal then I would put the first 6 on a truck...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I absolutely think the North American car will be way better with an optimized battery. However, I am not so sure about the MIC car now. I still predict that the North American car will run 2.95 seconds for a true 0-60 mph without subtracting rollout and this 0-40 mph time backs that up...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yes, definitely we should take that run for what it is. However, I also want to stress that the 0-40 mph was fantastic for that run. That is a noticeable difference in acceleration under 40 mph. What this shows is that we really need to preheat the battery still. That should be the first thing...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

0-40 mph is way better than the old car by a lot. You have to remove over 200 lbs from the old car to match that time. 40-60 mph with this cold battery in the new LG car is way worse than the old US Panasonic cars with similar weight wheels.
  32. M

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Yes, you did the best you could with what you had and we all appreciate it. A cold battery will affect this new car tremendously. I checked for the absolute slowest run I have ever had and the 50-60 mph time you had exactly matched my 50-60 mph from that slow run. I had intentionally chilled...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Thank you so much for this version. This tells us so much. Look at that 0-10 mph launch. .39 exactly matches my absolute best time with a fully preconditioned and gutted car. The test you did matches my best lightweight run all the way to 40 mph where the new car absolutely collapsed. It is...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Honestly, I really think the data you provided is highlighting the fact that the Panasonic car really is going to be significantly quicker especially with that new rear motor. The LG battery does appear to be a significant handicap.

Thank you. That is an excellent and well written review.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I agree that it was not necessarily a direct comparison. However, I am 200+ lbs and the part I am comparing is from 40 mph to 60+ mph. Traction is irrelevant then because torque is falling off by that point. The whole point of the new rear motor is that it allows you to hold max power much...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Thank you for all of this great data. We really appreciate you testing it. However, this really doesn’t look good at all. I put a Dragy result below from a car with just 18” wheels and no other weight reductions. Just look at the acceleration line for both cars. The new MIC car is falling off...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It is important to understand that Tesla claims 16% more max rear torque. That defines 0-40 mph and will be slightly quicker. Then they say 32% more max rear HP but this is at a vastly different speed. The old car hit max HP for a brief second at 55 mph. The new car hits it at 68 mph for the...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Max battery power of the current car is 436 KW(585 HP). 90% of 436 is 392.4 KW(526 HP). Those numbers all line up with expectations. There is a possibility that US based cars will hit 461 KW at the battery instead of the 436 KW of the old cars. Not sure if that is possible or not though.

Congrats! Did you switch from a RWD/LR to the Performance model?

This is how important the 60 foot time is for the 1/4 mile

My prediction is that the new car’s 1/4 mile times will look very similar to this.
  43. M

This is how important the 60 foot time is for the 1/4 mile

Here are two Dragy screenshots showing the fastest and slowest you could go and run 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds with rollout subtracted. The 100% stock Model 3 Performance did 0-60 mph in 3.23 seconds without subtracting rollout. There is no way the new car is only going to be .1 seconds quicker...

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Congrats! So excited for everyone getting VINs now. As far as the lease goes, let’s just say I can’t get the tax credit without the lease. I ran the numbers and the depreciation would be too extreme for it to make sense to buy the car. However, I want to be clear that the lease numbers are...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

If it hits 125 mph it will be well below 11.0.
  47. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It won’t even be close to that. 9 seconds perhaps.
  48. M

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Model 3 Performance still only has a rear permanent magnet motor. Model S LR has two permanent magnet motors. You can’t trap 130 mph in the 1/4 mile without both motors being permanent magnet motors. 125 mph is about all we can hope for in the Model 3 Performance.
